About the Opportunity
MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Civil Pipelayer for our client, a well-established civil contractor specializing in underground infrastructure and municipal construction throughout the Lower Mainland.
This is a hands-on field position supporting the installation of underground civil infrastructure, including watermains, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, utility servicing, pump stations, PRV chambers, and related infrastructure. The successful candidate will work closely with the Foreperson, equipment operators, and site crew to ensure installations are completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with project drawings and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Install underground piping systems for watermain, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and other civil utilities
- Prepare pipe bedding and assist with excavation and trench activities
- Set and maintain pipe grades, elevations, and slopes using appropriate tools and equipment
- Install, connect, and align pipes, fittings, and related components
- Assist with the construction and installation of manholes, catch basins, and other underground structures
- Read and follow civil drawings, grades, elevations, and project specifications
- Work around existing utilities and infrastructure while maintaining safe work practices
- Assist with testing and inspection of installed underground infrastructure
- Support proper backfilling and protection of installed utilities
- Work collaboratively with Forepersons, excavator operators, labourers, and other crew members
- Maintain a strong focus on site safety, quality, and productivity
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience as a Pipelayer or in underground civil construction
- Hands-on experience installing watermain, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, or other underground utilities
- Understanding of pipe grades, elevations, slopes, materials, and fittings
- Ability to read and follow basic civil drawings and installation requirements
- Comfortable working in excavation and trench environments
- Experience working around existing utilities and infrastructure
- Strong understanding of construction safety and trench/excavation hazards
- Reliable, hardworking, and comfortable working as part of a hands-on construction crew
- Ability to take direction while working independently when required
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
