We are seeking an experienced Microsoft Fabric Data Engineering Architect to lead the design, implementation, and governance of enterprise data platforms built on Microsoft Fabric. This role will define the organization's data architecture strategy and provide technical leadership for modern analytics, data engineering, lakehouse, and data warehousing solutions.
6 month contract to start, possible extension. 2 days a week onsite in Burnaby, will consider remote from out of province.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement enterprise-scale Microsoft Fabric solutions leveraging:
- OneLake
- Lakehouse
- Data Warehouse
- Data Factory
- Semantic Models
- Define and maintain data architecture standards, patterns, and governance frameworks.
- Lead the design of medallion architectures (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers).
- Architect scalable data integration, ingestion, transformation, and orchestration pipelines.
- Provide technical leadership to data engineers and analytics teams.
- Establish security, data quality, metadata, and compliance standards.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
- Drive capacity planning, performance optimization, monitoring, and cost management.
- Develop CI/CD and DevOps practices for Microsoft Fabric deployments.
- Partner with data governance teams to support cataloging, lineage, and data stewardship initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of data engineering, data architecture and analytics platform experience.
- 3+ years designing modern cloud data platforms on Azure.
- 2+ years working with Microsoft Fabric including:
- OneLake
- Fabric Lakehouse
- Fabric Warehouse
- Data Factory
- Notebooks and Spark
- Data Pipelines
- Power BI
- Strong expertise in:
- Data modeling (Dimensional and Data Vault)
- Sematic Models
- ETL/ELT frameworks
- SQL and T-SQL
- PySpark
- Delta Lake
- Experience implementing lakehouse and medallion architecture patterns.
- Knowledge of enterprise security, RBAC, governance, and compliance controls.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Certified:
- Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate (DP-)
- Azure Data Engineer Associate (DP-)
- Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-)
- Experience with:
- Azure DevOps
- Git-based deployment models
- Power BI Enterprise deployments
