The successful candidate

will possess: Degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work or Psychology from UBC or equivalent and two (2) or more years of successful full-time experience or equivalent part-time experience, working with adolescents or youth providing services of the type described previously in a school or community setting. Demonstrated working knowledge of social, emotional and behavioural issues of adolescents. Demonstrated ability in working with “at risk” adolescents. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with community agencies and Ministries. Demonstrated ability to independently plan and implement social, emotional and behavioural support plans for adolescents of secondary age, including instruction of students in areas such as conflict resolution, anger management and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain rapport with students of secondary age who exhibit social/emotional needs and/or severe behavioural difficulties including understanding the communicative functions of challenging behaviour. Demonstrated ability to prevent and resolve conflicts between students in a constructive manner. Thorough knowledge of District policy and legislation regarding conduct, confidentiality and the duty to report when working with adolescents. Excellent interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of a multi-functional program team with teachers, administrators, and community care providers. Excellent ability to communicate orally and in writing. Ability to organize workload and complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision. Familiarity with secondary curriculum. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.This position is in the bargaining unit, with an hourly rate of pay of $35.79 at 35 hours/week. This position is on-site with no opportunities for remote work.
