Associate Vice President & Senior Counsel, Litigation About the Company Prominent provider of insurance & wealth management products Industry Insurance Type Public Company Founded 1847 Employees 10,001+ Specialties - insurance wealth management - insurance and wealth management About the Role The Company is seeking an Associate Vice President and Senior Counsel for Litigation. The successful candidate will be a key leader in the Canadian Litigation and Employment group, providing essential legal representation and advice in a wide range of legal disputes, with a particular focus on strategic and tactical legal and regulatory issues in Québec. This role involves supervising and managing a team of legal professionals, as well as overseeing external counsel. The ideal candidate will be a member of the Barreau du Québec, with a strong recommendation for membership in the Law Society of Ontario, and have at least 10 years of relevant work experience. Bilingual in French and English, the candidate should have a deep understanding of the Québec regulatory environment, including the AMF and CNESST, and possess excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills. Key responsibilities for the Associate Vice President and Senior Counsel include providing legal opinions and advice to various business units, managing the day-to-day handling of litigation requests, and supporting a variety of business units in legislative and regulatory matters. The role also involves coaching and mentoring team members, collaborating with business groups, and ensuring comprehensive and consistent legal advice. The candidate should be self-motivated, with a growth-oriented mindset, and have a practical, solution-oriented approach to legal issues. Superior judgment, attention to detail, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential. The position offers the opportunity to work in dynamic practice areas and to interact with senior management on a regular basis.
