Communications Specialist

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Specialist, HR Strategic Communications & Enablement on behalf of our client for a 5.5-month contract. This senior-level role will strengthen communication practices across the HR function while developing high-quality executive and leadership materials.

The successful candidate will work closely with HR leaders to translate complex programs, workforce initiatives, priorities, and business challenges into clear and effective communications. The role combines executive communications, strategic storytelling, presentation development, and hands-on communications enablement, including the creation of templates, standards, tools, and repeatable processes for HR teams.

• Location: Calgary, AB – On-site
• Job Type: Contract – September 14, 2026 to February 26, 2027 (~5.5 months)
• Schedule: 40 hours/week

Responsibilities

• Develop executive and leadership materials, including Board presentations, SVP/VP updates, briefing notes, speaking points, and strategic narratives.
• Translate complex HR programs, workforce initiatives, risks, and business priorities into clear, concise communications.
• Create practical communication templates, standards, messaging frameworks, job aids, and guidance for HR leaders and teams.
• Develop and edit presentations and written materials to improve clarity, consistency, storytelling, and overall impact.
• Support HR leaders and managers with message development, communication planning, audience considerations, and delivery approaches.
• Partner with Corporate Communications to ensure HR materials align with enterprise messaging, brand standards, and communication practices.
• Establish repeatable communication processes and reusable resources that improve consistency and quality across HR.
• Work with senior leaders and cross-functional stakeholders to ensure communications effectively support organizational priorities.

Qualifications -Must-Haves

• 10+ years of experience in executive communications, strategic/business communications, HR communications enablement, communications governance, or a related area.
• Strong experience developing executive presentations, Board materials, senior leadership communications, briefing notes, and strategic messaging.
• Exceptional business writing, editing, storytelling, and presentation development skills.
• Experience translating complex information into concise, audience-appropriate communications.
• Experience partnering directly with executives, Directors, and senior stakeholders within a large or complex organization.
• Strong stakeholder management and consulting skills with the ability to influence across different levels of an organization.
• Experience developing communication standards, templates, toolkits, messaging frameworks, governance practices, or similar enablement resources.
• Strong business acumen and ability to connect HR communications with broader organizational priorities.
• Undergraduate degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Business, Human Resources, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience specifically supporting HR or workforce-related communications.
• Experience within energy, utilities, oil & gas, pipelines, or another highly regulated industry.
• Experience developing communication practices and resources that can be adopted consistently across a large corporate function
