Established in 1976 the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies (SIIT) is a First Nation governed post-secondary institution. Recognized under provincial legislation, the Institute has been conferred authority to grant certificates and diplomas. SIIT welcomes over 2400 students into our urban and community programs annually as well as serving over 6000 clients through our eight Career Centres across the province. You can contribute to that success while building your career.Nature and ScopeThe Career Services Coordinator is responsible for the development and delivery of career services programs that meet the needs of First Nations. The position involves engagement with community stakeholders, internal stakeholders, and employers to deliver successful programs and services. This position will positively promote and create an environment that demonstrates SIIT's vision, mission, and mandate. General AccountabilityThe Career Services Coordinator provides leadership and oversight for career development services and programs, supporting learners, clients, and communities through career planning, skills development, and employment opportunities. The Coordinator builds partnerships with First Nations communities, Tribal and Grand Councils, employers, ISET Program holders, and other stakeholders, and leads the development, delivery, monitoring, and evaluation of programs, identifying new or enhanced services that respond to community, learner, and labour market needs. The Coordinator also provides strategic guidance on short- and long-term program planning, and oversees program resources, budgets, and staff, including the recruitment, management, and development of instructors and students, with approval authority over program contracts, purchase orders, and expenditures. This position is responsible for coordinating programs from start to finish, including administration and financial budgeting. Extensive travel to communities and program locations is required. This position includes the following broad range of accountabilities: Specific AccountabilitiesThe Coordinator, Career Services will develop and deploy strategies related to career services through community, employers, and related businesses. This position is responsible for the coordination of programs from start to finish. This position is required to seek out new program opportunities, as well as, in collaboration with the Director, identify the need to modify current programs and services in order to meet the needs of the clients and communities. This position includes the following broad range of accountabilities: Coordination & MonitoringIdentify, initiate, and support the coordination of programsCoordinate annual program reviewsEnsure the program material is current and relevantSupport the Career Development Officers in the monitoring of training programsEnsure the training program meets the needs of the First Nation Tribal/Grand Councils and stakeholdersEnsure the program is on schedule and curriculum components are deliveredWork closely with relevant personnel and departments to ensure smooth operations, including calendar planning, internal and external evaluations, and joint workshop initiatives for facilitatorsEnsure project goals are achieved as per agreementsModerate travel to various First Nation communities and eventsKeep up-to-date on trends in the labour market and the economic climate and requirements and qualifications for different occupationsPartnering & ReportingBuild relationships and engage with First Nations, Tribal and Grand Councils, training and employment agencies, and other relevant stakeholders, to effectively build programs and services that meet their needs and strengthen their linkages SIITConduct regular community visits or engagements with stakeholders and ongoingDevelop contracts and budgets with outside stakeholders for programs and servicesIdentify, evaluate, and develop external relationships and partnership opportunities, provide recommendations that support departmental goalsContribute to SIIT's strategic effectiveness by representing and participating on internal and external committeesCoordinate, prepare, and submit accurate and timely reports and updates to inform stakeholders and strengthen departmental outcomesResource AllocationDevelop budgets for full cycle community programsMonitor budgets for all programs, ensuring sufficient resources are available to deliver the trainingApprove all contracts prior to the commencement of the trainingAuthorize purchase orders pertaining to the programsApprove and authorize invoices and expenses for paymentResearch grant opportunities for program needsPeople Management & Client FocusCoach, train and develop employees to ensure growth and development of those individualsConduct regular reviews with direct reports; ensure adherence to SIIT policies and proceduresEnsure a positive, diverse, inclusive work and learning environmentAssist in building and leading the department through employee recruitment and selection Implement and monitor effective client retention strategiesWork collaboratively with Career Development Officers, Facilitators, Students, to provide services and cultural activities for studentsAttend and positively contribute during staff, department, and Institute meetingsAdhere to and promote academic regulations and SIIT policies and procedures and departmental policiesFoster a positive, collaborative and professional working relationship among students, facilitators, coworkers and partners across the InstituteMonitor client attendance, report as required, and implement disciplinary action where SIIT policy requiresWork collaboratively with administration, and facilitators to provide support services and cultural activities for studentsStudent FocusBuild and maintain positive relationships among students and facilitatorsReview student attendance, report as required, and implement disciplinary action as per SIIT policyEnsure a positive, diverse and inclusive work and learning environment for all students Required Qualifications and Experience: A degree or diploma in social sciences discipline, business or related field is preferred. A minimum of 4 years work experience in a related field of training and employment. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (including online applications) of programs is required. Supervisory experience is required. Knowledge of First Nations cultures and organizations are considered assets. Incumbent must have a valid driver's license and reliable vehicle as moderate travel is required. As this position is considered safety sensitive, the incumbent will be subject to testing as per SIIT's Alcohol and Substances policy.
