Elder Care Provider Wanted - Private Psw/Senior Companion Aurora, Ontario Occasional Private Client

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE POSTING BEFORE RESPONDING: THIS POSITION HAS SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS REGARDING LOCATION, EXPERIENCE, AVAILABILITY, VEHICLE AND THE ABILITY TO COMMIT TO A 4-5 CONSECUTIVE DAYS WHEN SCHEDULED: LOCAL APPLICANTS ONLY: Applicants must live within approx. 25 minutes to Aurora and have their own vehicle. The location is important because there is an afternoon break during which the caregive can leave, go home or take care of personal errands, and then return. This is an OCCASIONAL private-client position, not a full-time job. We are specifically looking for an experienced PSW who already works in the field and would like to take on one additional private client. Her husband travels approximately every 8 weeks, and we would generally need coverage for 4–5 consecutive days, occasionally a sixth day if travel plans change. Dates will be coordinated well in advance. Reliability is essential: once you agree to cover a block of days, we need someone who can commit to the entire period. This is not a position where we are looking for someone who can work only certain mornings,or evenings, here and there. This is intended to become a long-term relationship with the right person. As her needs gradually change, there may be opportunities for additional occasional visits and support. About the Client She is a senior woman who remains quite independent. She has had a stroke and has some mobility limitations and uses a walker when outside, so she benefits from someone being present for safety and fall prevention. She manages her own medication/insulin and is independent with the bathroom and dressing herself. The job is primarily at this point COMPANIONSHIP, supervision, meals and light day-to-day assistance, rather than intensive personal care. She is warm, social and very talkative and enjoys conversation, stories and having someone around. We are looking for someone kind, patient, upbeat and genuinely interested in seniors. She loves to talk with people so a good companionship fit is important. She also has a small dog who is very important to her. The dog simply needs to be taken outside to the front of the house to pee, watched while outside, and brought safely back inside. Typical Schedule 8:00 a.m. – approximately 1:30 p.m. • Breakfast preparation • Be present while she showers for safety • General morning support and companionship • Simple meal preparation • Lunch by noon–1:00 p.m. • Light clean-up and tidying • Occasional local errands or outings if necessary • Take the dog outside • Have lunch with her and provide companionship Approximately 1:30 – 4... p.m. Free time — caregiver may leave and return later. Approximately 4:30 - 7:00 p.m. • Prepare a simple dinner • Eat dinner with her • Clean up • Take the dog outside as needed • Ensure she is comfortably settled for the evening The exact hours are somewhat flexible depending on the day. Requirements: • PSW certification • Previous experience working with seniors-personable, and someone who loves to talk • Stroke, mobility or fall-risk experience preferred • Current CPR/First Aid • Valid driver's licence • Own reliable vehicle • Comfortable with occasional local driving/errands • Excellent spoken English • Canadian professional references • Vulnerable Sector Check preferred • Comfortable with a small dog • Comfortable preparing simple meals • Warm, personable and enjoys conversation • Respectful of the client's personal values and faith Reliable and able to commit to 4–5 consecutive This position is NOT: fulltime/livein/not overnight/not an agency position/not sponsored/intensive personal or medication administration We are looking for someone who ALREADY HAS a PSW CAREER or other established work and would like to ADD a good, OCCASIONAL private client to their schedule. As her needs will change over time, the relationship may develop into more regular support. There may also be opportunities between travel periods for additional occassional hours-for example, a 2-4 hour visit to provide companionship, help wash and blow dry hair, meal prep, small general assistance. These additional visits would be arranged as needed and are not guaranteed, but could provide an opportunity for the right person to spend more time with her and become familiar with her routine.
