Mon-Thursday 11:00am-7:00pm, Fridays 8:30am-4:30pm

Flexibility to work beyond regular shift due to programming needs may be required.

Coverage at other sites and travel may be required.

Schedules may change depending on operational requirements

Our youth community justice programs deliver programming to young people aged 12-24. Our programs provide alternative to formal court processes and/or custody, and work to engage young people in further developing their skills and seek to repair harm caused where possible.


Reporting to the Supervisor of our youth community justice programs, the Justice Workers for our Attendance Program collaborate to provide individualized case management, support, and individual and group programming to justice-involved youth. This position is responsible for intake and case management, individualized service planning, ongoing communication with young people and referral sources, program facilitation, and connecting young people with appropriate community supports and resources Programming includes individual and group-based interventions focused on areas such as emotional regulation, decision-making, substance use, healthy relationships, and other identified needs.

The role also provides individual and group programming within our two Toronto District School Board (TDSB) partnership programs located onsite at our Attendance Centre.

Program Delivery & Case Management

• Complete intake, assessment, planning, and case management for youth referred

• Deliver individual and group programming and contribute to the ongoing review and development of program curriculum and resources

• Build respectful, strength-based relationships with young people that support engagement, accountability, and progress toward identified goals

• Use trauma-informed crisis prevention, intervention, and de-escalation strategies when youth are experiencing distress, escalation, or crisis

• Connect young people with relevant community services, resources, and supports, and support referrals and system navigation as required

• Maintain regular communication with young people, referral sources, and other members of the team regarding participation, progress, and identified needs

• Support the delivery of programming within our TDSB partnership programs

• Create meaningful opportunities for youth feedback and participation in program evaluation and continuous improvement

• Support the collection and review of program data to inform evaluation, reporting, program quality, and ongoing development

• Support placement students, as assigned

Partnerships

• Develop and strengthen collaborative relationships with community partners and referral sources that support young people’s needs and goals

• Work collaboratively with justice system partners, including Crown Attorneys, defense counsel, probation officers, and other court personnel, as well as Toronto District School Board (TDSB), Toronto Police Service (TPS), community organizations, and other service providers

• Foster relationships and represent the program and organization at network tables, community groups, conferences, etc. as assigned

Administration & Professional Development

• Maintain timely, accurate, and complete case notes, referral information, statistics, reports, meeting documentation, and other required program records

• Ensure documentation and information-sharing practices are consistent with policies, program requirements, privacy requirements, and applicable legislation

• Participate in team meetings, supervision, and other program nad organizational meetings

• Maintain consistent and professional communication with young people, referral sources, colleagues, and community partners

• Participate in program evaluation, strategic planning, organizational initiatives, and committees as required

• Other responsibilities as assigned

WHO YOU ARE

Knowledge/Experience

• Minimum 2-year diploma in Social Work, Child & Youth Work, or related field

• Minimum 2 years' related experience working with youth and/or vulnerable populations

• Some knowledge of and/or experience working within the youth justice system

• Understanding of the many community organizations and supports available to young people

• Direct experience engaging with diverse populations and an ability to apply a culturally responsive lens to all interactions, including with youth, staff, and partners

• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders effectively, respectfully, and efficiently with minimal supervision

• Experience in problem-solving and working through immediate challenges Demonstrated experience in group facilitation

• Proven ability to work collaboratively within and across teams

• Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) and willingness to apply for Broad Record Check (BRC)

In addition, the following are considered assets:

• Understanding of relevant legislation and institutional policies (including the Youth Criminal Justice Act, Education Act, Safe Schools Act)

• Knowledge of the social service organizations operating in Toronto and a willingness to broaden knowledge with respect to young people coming from outside of our geographic location

• Current Standard First Aid and CPR certificate, CPI, ASIST
