Compensation: $70,000 to $90,000 base salary

Please note, this role will be fully on-site in London, Ontario.

Responsibilities

Prepare and review Canadian sales tax returns, including GST/HST, PST, and QST.

Review invoices and payments to ensure compliance with applicable sales tax requirements.

Conduct technical sales tax research and interpret legislation, regulations, and administrative policies.

Provide technical guidance and respond to complex indirect tax questions from internal business partners and employees.

Act as a key indirect tax subject matter expert, providing practical guidance and recommendations on sales tax matters.

Support and lead CRA sales tax audits.

Interact directly with the CRA and respond to audit inquiries and information requests.

Monitor changes to Canadian sales tax legislation and administrative policies and communicate potential impacts to the organization.

Ensure internal tax compliance processes and procedures are followed and identify opportunities for improvement.

Assist with month-end close and year-end audit processes related to indirect taxes.

Work independently to analyze and resolve complex indirect tax issues and provide clear recommendations to stakeholders.

Collaborate with the broader tax and finance teams on compliance, technical analysis, and tax-related initiatives.

Qualifications

5+ years of Canadian indirect sales tax experience.

Strong knowledge of Canadian GST/HST and PST; QST experience is an asset.

Demonstrated experience beyond simply preparing and filing sales tax returns, including technical research, analysis, and interpretation of sales tax legislation.

Previous experience interacting with the CRA and supporting or leading sales tax audits, with the ability to independently lead an audit when required.

Strong ability to research complex sales tax matters and interpret legislation, regulations, and administrative concepts.

Proven ability to act as a technical resource and provide guidance on indirect tax matters to internal stakeholders.

Strong understanding of sales tax compliance requirements and internal controls.

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.

Highly organized, proactive, and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced environment.

Strong communication skills with the confidence to provide technical guidance to business partners and stakeholders.

Strong Microsoft Excel skills and comfort working with numbers and detailed financial information.

U.S. sales tax experience is considered an asset but is not required.

CPA designation and/or completion of the CPA In-Depth GST/HST course is considered an asset but is not required.
