Specialist, Data Governance & Stewardship
Our client, a major global mining company, is building a new team to oversee data governance across the enterprise.
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 6 months, possibility of extension - plan is to have a long term engagement
Location: Mississauga, occasional travel to downtown Toronto. Hybrid - 1-2 days onsite
Primary Focus: Governance operating model, metadata, catalog, stewardship, business engagement.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end Data Stewardship implementation and operationalization.
- Implement and maintain Data Catalog capabilities (Purview, Collibra, Informatica EDC, etc.).
- Manage Metadata Management, Business Glossaries, Data Dictionaries, Classification, and Lineage.
- Define and operationalize Data Ownership, Stewardship, and Accountability models.
- Establish governance policies, standards, workflows, and controls.
- Facilitate Critical Data Element (CDE) identification and governance.
- Coordinate data issue management, governance councils, and stewardship forums.
- Drive adoption, training, and change management across business domains.
Required Experience
- 8-10+ years in Data Governance and Data Management.
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- Data Catalog
- Metadata Management
- Business Glossary
- Data Lineage
- Data Stewardship
- Demonstrated experience leading at least one end-to-end Data Stewardship implementation.
- Experience working with business stakeholders, Data Owners, and Stewards.
Nice to Have
- DAMA/CDMP Certification
- Microsoft Purview experience
- Mining, Manufacturing, or Industrial sector experience
