Number of Available positions: Vacancies

Vacancies: One (01). This position may last for up to 18 months. Located at the Regional Headquarters, Whitby, Ontario.

Reporting to the Manager, Community Relations, the incumbent will be responsible for leading the planning of corporate events on behalf of the Regional Chair, CAO and other departments. The events will be in support of the Durham Region Strategic Plan and departmental plans to enhance the positive image of the Region, while increasing internal and external awareness of Regional programs and services. The incumbent will:

  • Concurrently plan for multiple, high-profile events led by the Chair, CAO or Departments throughout the year, multitasking between different stages of event planning to ensure each event meets their timeline
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to event leads regarding event format, marketing design, logistics, artistic and technical production, catering, special guests, speakers and entertainment
  • Lead the implementation of all aspects of the event including sourcing and booking the location, catering, equipment and supplies, managing the invitations and guest list, guiding the creations of communications and marketing material and other aspects specific to the event
  • Establish a network of events related contacts within the region including other events professionals at partner organizations, venues, caterers and others
  • Apply appropriate, established protocols to all corporate events (e.g. protocols for flags, signage, speakers, greetings, seating guests and others)
  • Capture metrics through the distribution of surveys and feedback forms, analyze data and create a post-event metrics report for the event
  • Implement clear communications protocols that are appropriate for each level of guest
  • Other duties as assigned

The successful applicant will possess:

  • A post-secondary diploma of over one year and up to two years in Event Planning, Event Management, Hospitality and Tourism, Public Relations, Marketing or equivalent or equivalent combination of education and related work experience
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation, including Accessibility for Ontarians With Disabilities Act, Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, Durham Region Strategic Plan, and Canadian Press Style
  • Proven proficiency with various computer software applications including Microsoft Office, web technologies and graphic arts software (InDesign, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Illustrator)
  • Excellent command of the English language, including strong grammar and editing skills
  • A demonstrated ability to provide high-quality service with consideration for equity and accessibility
  • Creative problem-solving and strong analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Strong writing and editing skills, coupled with a keen attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities being organized
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external parties
  • Effective conflict resolution skills and flexibility and adaptability
  • A valid Ontario Class G Driver's Licence and access to a vehicle

CUPE 1764 Salary Grade 5

This position is with Salary Grade 5 and will be paid at the following hourly rates:-

Start: $41.44 - Six Month: $43.74 - Job: $46.04
