Job Title: Intermediate Instrumentation Engineer

Reports To: Team Lead - Instrumentation

Juno Engineering is an industrial engineering consulting firm supporting complex energy and infrastructure work. Our instrumentation team delivers measurement and control systems for brownfield revamps and greenfield developments.

The role

Juno is hiring an Intermediate Instrumentation Engineer to execute instrumentation design deliverables on industrial energy projects. With guidance from senior engineers and the Team Lead, you will size and specify instruments, prepare data sheets and material requisitions, maintain the instrument index, coordinate vendor and automation interfaces, and support field execution and as-built closeout.

What you’ll do

This role follows Juno engineering procedures and quality checklists. Safety and technical quality come first.

  • Perform instrument sizing and selection; prepare instrument data sheets and supporting calculations.
  • Develop and update P&IDs, loop diagrams, and hook-up/installation details; support control narratives and cause-and-effect as assigned.
  • Develop and maintain the instrument index; prepare material requisitions, MTO inputs, and construction work package content.

Interdisciplinary coordination & model integration:

  • Coordinate with piping, electrical, process, and mechanical disciplines to resolve interfaces and align requirements.
  • Participate in 3D model reviews; identify clashes and coordinate updates into issued drawings and work packages.
  • Support technical inquiries and vendor document review; prepare bid tabulations/technical evaluations for instrumentation packages.
  • Coordinate with Automation Services to confirm PLC/DCS I/O lists, marshalling needs, and network/communications requirements.
  • Participate in vendor meetings and support FAT/SAT activities; track actions and close technical items.
  • Monitor assigned deliverables; upscale changes, risks, and field issues to the Team Lead and Project Manager.

Field & commissioning support:

  • Support site walk-downs, construction queries (RFIs), and redlines; coordinate as-built documentation updates.
  • Support loop checks, pre-startup reviews, and commissioning; assist with troubleshooting and closeout.

Quality & continuous improvement:

  • Apply Juno standards, templates, and calculation tools; complete discipline QA/QC checklists prior to issue.
  • Contribute to discipline standards and digital libraries; suggest workflow improvements that reduce rework.
  • Capture and share lessons learned to improve future project execution.

What you bring

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution; or a Diploma in Instrumentation Engineering Technology.
  • 5-9 years of industrial instrumentation experience, including detailed design and construction support for operating facilities and/or new builds.
  • Eligible for professional registration (P.Eng. with APEGA, or C.E.T. registration with ASET) or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Experience supporting vendor packages, procurement support, and field execution (site walk-downs, RFIs, commissioning support) is an asset.

Technical skills:

  • Proficiency in instrument sizing, specification, and selection, and loop/installation documentation.
  • Experience preparing data sheets, material requisitions, and technical bid evaluations; ability to review and disposition vendor data.
  • Working knowledge of PLC/DCS I/O and control integration; comfortable with CAD/PDF mark-up and digital document systems.

Core competencies:

  • Highly organized; able to manage competing priorities across concurrent projects.
  • Clear written and verbal communication; effective interface with clients and vendors.
  • Detail-focused and quality-minded; follows procedures and closes actions reliably.
  • Collaborative and solutions-oriented; escalates risks early and supports continuous improvement.

Working environment

  • Calgary-based role (minimum 4 days/week in office).
  • Occasional field trips (up to 10%) to industrial sites; must wear required PPE.

Compensation & benefits for employees

  • Retirement savings plan and company deferred profit sharing plan.
  • Flexible work schedule.

At Juno, we build more than industrial facilities - we build relationships. You'll work with a tight-knit team delivering instrumentation design that supports safe, reliable operations for our clients.

Juno Engineering is committed to an inclusive workplace. If you require accommodation during the hiring process, let us know.
