Assistant Manager – The selected candidate will start at a base wage of $21.00 per hour.
Responsibilities
- Assist in recruiting, hiring, training and developing a high‑performing staff consisting of Member Service Representatives, Trainers and Custodians.
- Assist in maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for all members, prospective members and guests, and ensure staff follows superior customer service guidelines.
- Assist in staff management and provide backup support to the Club Manager as needed.
- Assist in scheduling and supervising staff to ensure that all shifts are regularly covered.
- Ensure staff provides a superior customer experience at all times.
- Assist in resolving or escalating employee issues or concerns.
- Assist in approving and processing weekly club payroll and preparing necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
- Provide backup support for any absent employee.
- Lead by example with involvement in all front‑desk related activities: greeting members and guests, answering phones, checking members into the system, touring and signing up new members, logging amenities, and communicating updates or events.
- Facilitate all member requests and help resolve member issues and questions.
- Assist in overseeing cleanliness and maintenance of the facility, including front‑desk area, lobby, and regular club upkeep such as mopping, trash removal, window and mirror cleaning, and re‑racking weights.
- Ensure the safety of employees, members and club property by determining when equipment or facilities require repair and communicating to the Facilities and Maintenance team in a timely manner.
- Assist in ordering supplies using the club budget and tracking various statistics and reports on a weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
- Assist in managing marketing efforts to ensure all staff are aware of and trained on all marketing promotions.
- Additional duties as assigned based on club needs.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- One to two years of experience in a customer‑service environment, preferably in a gym or retail setting.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Strong customer‑service and problem‑resolution skills.
- Solid supervisory, diplomatic, and listening skills.
- Hard‑working, enthusiastic, energetic, and passionate about health and fitness.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Valid driver’s licence with an acceptable record and reliable transportation.
Physical Demands
- Continual standing and walking during the shift.
- Continual verbal communication in person or on the phone.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional exposure to toxic chemicals during the shift.
