The Faculty of Education, along with its commitment to the promotion, advancement and dissemination of knowledge in the field of education in general, is actively involved in teacher training. Position purpose:

Reporting to the Manager, Communications and Marketing, the incumbent implements Faculty of Education communications strategies that apply to webpage updating, new webpage and microsite design, and the creation of print communication, while complying with University of Ottawa branding and Ontario accessibility legislation requirements. Implements Faculty of Education communication strategies, specifically for social media, various digital and print communication channels, and email-based marketing.

In this role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Regularly updates content found on the Faculty of Education website (text and images) and on various communication tools by creating production schedules, in keeping with the priorities of various internal stakeholders (Faculty of Education enrolment team, faculty and service partners, Communications Directorate) and of public- and private-sector partners.

  • Enters data and maintains client databases to assist the Faculty of Education team in promoting events and keeping track of contacts.

  • Arranges for advertising material distribution, flyer printing and promotional item purchasing.

  • Contributes to theInstitute’s events (hosting booths, etc.) and provides communications support during external events to ensure their success and to answer questions from presenters and attendees.

  • Produces clear, concise texts that capture readers’ attention and meet their needs.

  • Drafts various documents, such as information briefs, press releases, notices and other internal documents.

  • Helps ensure that communications for the various services are consistent and uniform, in keeping with the communications strategy and brand requirements.

  • Contributes to large-scale special projects related to the design, architecture, navigation and functionalities of the website and backend.

  • Executes integrated marketing communications strategies, and optimizes the use of social media and email marketing.

  • Implements the communications strategy by developing a production and distribution schedule, drafting content for newsletters and preparing other communications tools.

  • Follows a content schedule for social media; drafts posts and disseminates them while managing online communities and upholding the University of Ottawa’s reputation.

  • Helps to produce multimedia materials (video, audio, interactive media, etc.) to showcase specific content while complying with best practices as well as the University’s graphic design and accessibility standards.

What you will bring:

  • Knowledge of writing and communications normally acquired through post-secondary studies in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • At least two years of demonstrated experience in a similar role

  • Proven experience in webpage design and in presenting online content in a clear, appealing format to achieve specific communication goals

  • Familiarity with principles of promotional writing, including for social media and other relevant platforms

  • Ability to find solutions to production and co-ordination issues

  • Experience in using tools to evaluate digital media

  • Knowledge of web communications and best practices in design, ergonomics and user experience

  • Knowledge of current web accessibility standards and how to comply with them (WCAG 2.0)

  • Ability to work on several projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines

  • Self-reliance and sense of responsibility

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Bilingualism in French and English (oral and written)
