Our highly engineered products serve as the backbone of modern-day commercial and military communications systems, assist in diagnosing medical conditions, empower scientific discoveries and space exploration, and much more.

CPI is headquartered in Plano, Texas and is a global manufacturer of electronic components and subsystems. We have manufacturing locations in the United States, Canada, Europe, and Asia. With a heritage of technological excellence, our team serves customers in the communications, defense, medical, industrial, and scientific markets.

YOUR DAY TO DAY:

Reporting to the VP Programs, the Product Line Manager is responsible for the strategic direction, commercial success, and lifecycle management of the assigned product line. Acting as the business owner for the portfolio, this role develops and executes product strategies that drive profitable growth, strengthen market position, and ensure long-term competitiveness.

The Product Line Manager serves as the primary link between the market and the organization, translating customer needs, competitive intelligence, and industry trends into product strategies and business priorities. Working closely with Engineering, Applications Engineering, Technical Services, Sales, Program Management, Operations, and Finance, the Product Line Manager ensures the product portfolio delivers value to customers while meeting the Company's financial and strategic objectives.

This role requires a blend of technical knowledge, commercial acumen, and strategic thinking to guide the product portfolio throughout its lifecycle—from market assessment and product planning through growth, sustainment, and eventual product retirement.

YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR:

Product Strategy & Portfolio Management

  • Develop and execute the product strategy, roadmap, and lifecycle plans for the assigned product line.
  • Monitor market trends, customer requirements, competitive activity, and emerging technologies to identify growth opportunities and strategic risks.
  • Lead business cases for new product development, sustaining engineering investments, and product rationalization decisions.
  • Ensure the product portfolio remains competitive, differentiated, and aligned with the Company's long-term business objectives.

Commercial Leadership

  • Develop pricing strategies that maximize profitability while maintaining market competitiveness.
  • Monitor product revenue, bookings, gross margin, and profitability, identifying opportunities to improve business performance.
  • Conduct win/loss analysis and market assessments to identify growth opportunities and improve competitive positioning.
  • Develop product forecasts and support long-range business planning in partnership with Sales, Finance, and Operations.

Market & Customer Leadership

  • Serve as the Voice of the Market by engaging with customers, sales teams, channel partners, and industry stakeholders.
  • Represent the product line during strategic customer meetings, industry conferences, and trade shows to strengthen market presence and gather customer insights.
  • Collaborate with Applications Engineering and Sales to understand evolving customer applications and market requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with key customers to support strategic growth initiatives and long-term business development.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Collaborate with Engineering to prioritize product improvements, sustaining engineering efforts, and new product development.
  • Partner with Technical Services to analyze field performance, warranty trends, and customer feedback to improve product reliability and serviceability.
  • Support new product introduction activities by ensuring commercial readiness, market positioning, and successful product launches.
  • Lead cross-functional product reviews to align business priorities, investment decisions, and product portfolio strategies.

YOU ARE THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THIS JOB IF YOU HAVE:

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, Marketing, or a related technical discipline; an MBA or equivalent business experience is considered an asset.
  • – years of progressively responsible experience in product management, applications engineering, technical marketing, business development, or related customer-facing technical roles supporting complex engineered products.
  • Demonstrated experience developing product strategies, business cases, market assessments, or product roadmaps.
  • Strong analytical, commercial, and communication skills with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive strategic business decisions.

Preferred

  • Experience supporting RF, microwave, high-voltage, medical imaging, aerospace, defense, industrial equipment, or similarly complex technologies.
  • Experience managing global product portfolios and supporting international markets.
  • Strong understanding of product lifecycle management, market analysis, and competitive strategy.
  • Experience working closely with Engineering, Sales, Technical Services, and Operations throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Must be able to meet CGP/ITAR requirements
