Job Summary

Provide technical support for diagnostic laboratory testing and specimen management. Perform routine specimen collection processing and documentation while adhering to laboratory safety and quality standards.

Main Duties

• Collect patient specimens using venipuncture capillary puncture urine collection and other approved methods while verifying patient identity and labels.
• Process prepare and aliquot specimens for testing centrifuge samples and prepare slides or media as required.
• Operate calibrate and perform routine maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment according to standard operating procedures.
• Perform quality control checks document results and report any discrepancies to supervisory staff.
• Enter and maintain accurate specimen and test information in laboratory information systems and paper records.
• Adhere to infection prevention and control practices handle biohazardous materials safely and maintain a clean work environment.

Requirements

• Completion of a recognized medical laboratory assistant program clinical laboratory technician program or equivalent post-secondary education.
• Demonstrated experience in specimen collection and processing in a clinical laboratory or healthcare setting.
• Competence in phlebotomy and safe handling of biological specimens.
• Working knowledge of laboratory procedures quality control practices and infection prevention protocols.
• Proficiency with basic computer applications and laboratory information systems for data entry and record keeping.
• Ability to follow protocols maintain attention to detail under time constraints and perform physical tasks such as standing for periods and handling specimens.
