This fixed-term contract will begin in August 2026 and is expected to conclude in May 2027.

Please note: This is a live in residence position that requires the successful candidate to reside on campus for the duration of the contract. The position will work irregular hours including afternoons, evenings, and weekends.

About the Role:

Reporting to the Residence Life Coordinator, the Assistant Residence Life Coordinator (ARLC) supports the delivery and execution of the Residence Life program which promotes safety, security, wellness, and development of students living in residence. The ARLC supervises a team of student staff and addresses concerns and issues that impact the residential community.

The Assistant Residence Life Coordinator will:

  • Lead a team of student staff that support the community experience of residents;
  • Address employee conduct issues in accordance with Brock Housing Service’s staff discipline model;
  • Design and deliver staff training throughout the year in response to student and staff needs;
  • Assist in after-hours emergency response efforts, including activating broader departmental and university protocols. Respond high-level situations in person as a first responder or as a support in escalated situations;
  • Participate in a residence-wide on-call rotation and respond to after-hours residence concerns as required;
  • Respond to high-level, complex, and/or reoccurring emergency concerns on campus;
  • Deliver immediate and ongoing support to students and staff following emergency incidents;
  • Develop safety plans with students experiencing mental health challenges using ASIST training;
  • Complete documentation and conduct follow-up with impacted students and coordinate their support in collaboration with the Transition and Support Coordinators;
  • Investigate, adjudicate, and engage students regarding violations of the Residence Community Standards;
  • Apply sound judgement and established procedures to determine sanctions regarding discipline situations, consulting with Residence Life Coordinator as appropriate;
  • Maintain a strong presence within assigned community, including hosting drop-in hour and attending programming;
  • Model positive behaviour for staff and students, setting a positive example of community values;
  • Contribute to the facilitation of campus-wide programming and initiatives for the residence community; and
  • Facilitate harm reduction programming in assigned community and across the larger residence community.

Key Skills and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and/or the equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered;
  • Standard First Aid and CPR C;
  • Experience in a residence life or student affairs setting or demonstrated competence with leadership and crisis management in a fast-paced environment;
  • Understanding of student development theory with the ability to anticipate community needs in accordance with the annual student cycle;
  • Capacity to support and guide individuals with the ability to demonstrate tact in difficult conversations;
  • Skilled in evaluating solutions from multiple perspectives to identify equitable and innovative solutions; and
  • Promotes and embodies inclusivity and respect within the workplace and the broader community.

Preferred or Asset Skills:

  • ASIST training, Mental Health First Aid training, or equivalent.

Salary and Total Rewards:

  • Job Grade I, Salary Scale ($52,798- $84,476);
  • Target Hiring Salary: $52,798*, prorated to reflect the duration of the contract
  • This is a full-time, fixed term contract position that includes:Discounted rental rateUp to 3 weeks of vacation per year in addition to university holidays, prorated to reflect the duration of the contract
