ABOUT THE ROLE


As a member of the Re-Connect Youth Team the Youth Reconnect Support Worker will provide individual and family coaching assessment and advocacy to youth referred through MCFD. A strong emphasis is placed on providing the skills necessary to move into independence and to strengthen and reconnect them to family natural supports community and resources. Responsibilities include:

  • Initiates strengthens and maintains strong communication with the youth and their care team.
  • Develops and facilitates group and individual work to equip the youth with the concrete practical skills necessary to transition to independent living.
  • Provides strategies and teaches skills to assist in emotional regulation conflict management and distress tolerance.
  • Provides guidance advocacy and referrals to support youth in connecting to family and community resources.
  • Assists with planning processes applications mediating and facilitating communication with family liaising with the Ministry and other community professionals and completing documentation.
  • Recognizes and responds effectively to crises.


COMPENSATION & BENEFITS


  • Compensation range: $29.17 - $33.49 per hour
    Additional wage increases are anticipated in the coming months and are not reflected in the salary range above.

EDUCATION TRAINING and EXPERIENCE


  • Degree (preferred) or Diploma in the Human/Social service or related field
  • Two years of related experience supporting youth with addictions harm reduction and homelessness
  • Or an equivalent combination of education training and experience


SKILLS KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES:


Demonstrated knowledge and strong abilities to:

  • Build healthy trusting relationships and boundaries with all involved parties including the youth and their family members community professionals and colleagues
  • Provide emotional support life skills development and appropriate interventions to youth who have experienced adverse childhood experiences and taruma
  • Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours crisis situations and aggression
  • Maintain knowledge of community resources and make appropriate referrals
  • Develop and implement client-focused schedules plans and goal-setting methods
  • Manage conflict effectively using mediation and facilitation methods when necessary
  • Problem-solve and make ethical decisions
  • Provide clear and accurate written documentation
  • Follow directions and implement strong critical and analytical thinking in the work applying appropriate policies and procedures


REQUIREMENTS


  • Valid Class 5 Drivers license (or equivalent) and safe driving record
  • Access to a reliable vehicle insured with Business Use and $5 Million third-party liability (reimbursement is provided).
  • Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: CPR-C Mandt SafeTalk Safe Food Handling Naloxone Abuse and Neglect Awareness Training Anti-Bullying and Harassment MCFD Privacy.
  • Consent to Criminal Record Checks with venerable sector search (Reimbursement of related costs upon hire)
  • This position requires Union membership with a 1.85% Union Dues deduction from the pay.


PROGRAM: Youth ReConnect

LOCATION: Kamloops BC

STATUS: Full-Time

HOURS of WORK: 37.5 hours per week

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday flexible schedule with general daytime hours with some evenings and weekends as needed.

REPORTS TO: Youth ReConnect Program Coordinator

COMPENSATION: $30.95- 35.52 per hour (Grid 12 as per collective agreement)

JOB NUMBER: 2026-67
