Position Title

Primary Care Registered Nurse – Fraser South First Nations Primary Care Centre

Compensation

Salary: $94,724 – $114,261 per year (pay range explained below)

Employment Terms

  • 2‑year term with potential extension and possibility of permanent offer after term completion
  • Standard hours: 37.5 per week

Location

Abbotsford FNHA office with travel to Matsqui, Sumas and Kwantlen; flexibility for travel within the Fraser South region as needed.

FNPCI Initiative

The First Nations‑led Primary Care Initiative aims to improve access to culturally safe primary health‑care services for First Nations Peoples across BC and to develop 15 new First Nations Primary Health Care Centres. The centres will provide culturally safe, trauma‑informed, team‑based care that integrates western medicine and traditional wellness practices.

About the Center

The Fraser South First Nations Primary Care Centre (FS‑FNPCC), based in the Fraser Salish Region, will provide holistic, trauma‑informed primary care services to First Nations peoples in Langley, Abbotsford, Hope and the Fraser Canyon through a network of spoke sites.

Role Overview

The Primary Care Registered Nurse is part of a collaborative, multi‑disciplinary primary care team that delivers team‑based, trauma‑informed care. The RN provides direct primary care services, observes, assesses, monitors and documents client health, and makes evidence‑informed decisions to promote, maintain, or restore client health while fostering a racism‑free, culturally safe environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct primary care services to clients across all life stages.
  • Assess and document client health and progress for evidence‑based decision making.
  • Lead by demonstrating cultural humility and trauma‑and‑violence informed care.
  • Advocate for a racism‑free, culturally safe environment for clients, families, and staff.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to plan and deliver holistic care.

Qualifications

Education

  • Completion of a recognized Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent combination of education and training.

Occupational Certification

  • Current registered RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
  • CPR Certificate.
  • BCCDC Immunization Certification (asset).
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of recent primary care, public health, community or chronic disease care experience.
  • Experience working with First Nations clients.
  • Training in anti‑Indigenous racism response and cultural safety and humility.
  • Experience integrating holistic Indigenous approaches with western practices.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong knowledge of cultural safety, humility and trauma‑informed approaches.
  • Ability to apply First Nations cultural principles and protocols in work settings.
  • Proficiency in applying a two‑eyed seeing approach to balance western and traditional worldviews.
  • Awareness of own intersectionality, power, privilege and their impact on practice.
  • Understanding of rural and remote community challenges.
  • Knowledge of population health, health inequities, determinants, principles of primary care and nursing practice theories.
  • Demonstrated use of Trauma Informed Practice.
  • Physical ability to perform job duties.
