Description de poste

Norpac Construction Incorporated is an independent geotechnical contractor based in BC and Alberta, focused on high-risk, high-value civil work – where geohazards, access constraints, and remote delivery challenges converge. They are nimble, experienced, and growing fast, with a team that knows how to deliver on tough sites safely, profitably, and professionally. Norpac has been created to service the slope stabilization industry and its many specialized tasks.

Although Norpac is a newly formed company it comes with a management team and employee base that has been servicing the industry for over 25 years. Whatever our clients slope stabilization or ground support needs are the Norpac team has tackled them before and will work together with our clients to provide solutions to their problems and add value to their projects.

We have the ability to assess the project, offer multiple solutions, provide design engineering if needed, execute the work, and close out the project while keeping our clients informed and comfortable through the entire process. Our clients can be certain that our team approach will keep their best interests our top priority.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

We are seeking a Geotechnical Solutions Specialist to drive Norpac’s expansion in BC and beyond. Your role will involve finding opportunities, shaping technical solutions, and leading proposals for high-impact work in slope stabilization, shotcrete, ground improvement, and access infrastructure.

This isn’t just sales. You’re not pushing products – you’re building relationships, solving problems, and helping deliver real change to our clients in mining, transportation, utilities, and infrastructure.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Scout out sites and situations where slopes are failing, access is brutal, or conventional contractors can’t help.
  • Meet with owners, engineers, and contractors – understand their problems better than they do.
  • Lead solution development: walk the site, assess the risk, sketch out a game plan with our estimators and engineers.
  • Pull together winning packages: concepts, costs, constructability, delivery timelines.
  • Be present in the field when it counts – some trust can’t be built in an office.
  • Grow Norpac’s regional reputation as a go-to ground and slope stabilization expert.

MEASURING YOUR IMPACT:

As the Geotechnical Solutions Specialist, your success will be measured by both strategic and operational, directly affecting project safety, cost-efficiency, constructability, and risk management. Your role acts as a technical bridge between design concepts and site realities, especially in challenging ground conditions.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)

Technical Expertise & Delivery
These KPIs measure the quality, impact, and effectiveness of technical input.

  • Number of Technical Proposals/Designs Completed.
  • Count of geotechnical solutions delivered (e.g., ground improvement, slope stabilization, instrumentation layouts).
  • Solution Acceptance Rate.
  • % of technical solutions accepted and implemented by clients or internal design teams.
  • Time to Deliver Technical Proposals.
  • Average time taken to prepare and submit technical proposals or reports.
  • Site Visits/Assessments Conducted.
  • Number of site inspections or technical consultations performed.
  • Error Rate in Technical Deliverables.
  • Number of reworks or corrections requested due to technical inaccuracies.

Client Engagement & Support
Focused on how well the specialist supports external stakeholders.

  • Client Satisfaction Score (Post-Technical Engagement).
  • Feedback after technical solution delivery or field support.
  • Client Retention Contribution.
  • Number or % of repeat projects attributable to specialist’s technical input.
  • Technical Presentations or Lunch-and-Learns Delivered.
  • Sessions provided to educate clients or consultants on geotechnical products or methods.
  • Response Time to Technical Inquiries.
  • Time taken to provide meaningful answers to customer technical questions.

  • Training Sessions Delivered to Sales/Operations.
  • Sharing geotechnical knowledge internally (e.g., new products, design methods).
  • Collaboration Satisfaction (Sales/Design/Execution Teams).
  • Internal feedback score from key departments.
  • Design/Execution Handoff Efficiency.
  • Time and quality of transitioning solutions to operations or field teams.

Innovation & Development
Tracking professional growth and contribution to product/process improvement.

  • Technical R&D Contributions.
  • Participation in new product development or solution innovation.
  • Process Improvements Suggested/Implemented.
  • Documented suggestions to improve technical workflows or tools.
  • Certifications/Trainings Completed.

Education & Training:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in civil, mining, or geotechnical engineering.

Skills & Experience:

  • You’ve worked in the field – on drill decks, scaling slopes, walking muddy sites. This is not your first ground failure.
  • You know how to bid, estimate, and explain technical stuff without sounding like a spec sheet.
  • You build real relationships, not just email chains.
  • You’re a closer – not pushy, just persistent, credible, and dialed in.
  • You want to grow something—and you don’t need a playbook to get started.

CORE COMPETENCIES & THE VALUE THEY BRING:

A Geotechnical Solutions Specialist combines deep technical knowledge with real-world construction insight to provide safe, practical, and cost-effective ground engineering solutions. Their core competencies and value lie in bridging the gap between geotechnical design, field execution, and client/project objectives.

Geotechnical Technical Expertise

  • Advanced understanding of soil and rock behavior, slope stability, groundwater behavior, and foundation design.
  • Knowledge of ground improvement techniques (e.g., vibrocompaction, grouting, stone columns, soil mixing).
  • Skilled in interpreting geotechnical investigation data (boreholes, CPT, lab tests).

Practical Construction Knowledge

  • Experience with field implementation of geotechnical methods.
  • Familiarity with temporary works, site constraints, logistics, and safety requirements.
  • Ability to tailor designs to construction methods and sequencing.

Solution Design & Optimization

  • Develops tailored geotechnical solutions aligned with project budget, schedule, and site conditions.
  • Provides value engineering to reduce cost, time, or complexity.
  • Translates theoretical designs into constructible methods.

Risk Assessment & Mitigation

  • Identifies ground-related risks early and proposes actionable mitigation measures.
  • Supports contingency planning during unexpected subsurface challenges.

Technical Communication

  • Communicates clearly with project teams, clients, designers, and field crews.
  • Prepares and presents technical proposals, method statements, and risk assessments.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Works closely with sales, project management, engineers, and contractors.
  • Bridges technical and commercial perspectives to align with project and client goals.

Monitoring & Support

  • Provides on-site or remote support during execution (e.g., monitoring settlement, wall deflections).
  • Validates design performance and adjusts recommendations as needed.

Industry Tools & Standards

  • Proficient in geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, SLOPE/W, Settle3, LPILE).
  • Knowledge of construction standards (ASTM, Eurocode, local geotechnical codes).
  • Salary: $135K–$175K base, with meaningful performance incentive structure
  • Full extended health & dental + life and disability
  • RRSP match – because the future matters
  • Paid parental leave
  • Location: Remote + Travel
  • Freedom to do your best work without bureaucratic drag
  • A chance to shape the future of slope stabilization in Canada
