Blackbird Interactive is a creative-fueled, future-driven, independent game studio where the best talent in the industry can find long-term careers to help grow their abilities while working on a wide range of projects, which encompass world-class IPs as well as our own creations across multiple genres.
In 2022, we announced that our studio is implementing a four-day work week as well as supporting in-studio, remote within Canada, and hybrid work arrangements as permanent options to our employees.
Blackbird Interactive is looking for a Lead 3D Artist to join our team to deliver a large, exciting IP! Collaborate with our tight-knit team of highly dedicated and talented artists, designers, and developers to create best in class games. We’re looking for someone with previous experience leading an art team, and the ideal candidate has an excellent development sense, sophisticated pipeline and people skills, and the ability to build gameplans based on the Art Director’s feedback.
In addition to leading others and providing feedback, this role will also require the ability to create 3D asset content and material work as a production artist. A blend of people-management, problem solving and technical expertise will be key to this role.

Responsibilities

    • Work closely with the Art Director and project leadership as well as the dev team to define and communicate direction for this IP.
    • Explore, revise and iterate on pipelines and gameplays quickly and efficiently.
    • Provide in-depth research and reference materials to help drive visual development.
    • Consistently deliver asset work of the highest caliber that can inspire the team.
    • Delegate and direct responsibilities where needed, and proactively seek out and present solutions to problems.
    • Work with technical artists to come up with the most optimal and effective solutions to visualizing the art direction.
    • Work with production to provide estimates and ensure timely delivery of deliverables.
    • Help establish best practices and help write documentation to further organize and align the team.

Requirements

    • 4+ years of industry experienceExperience leading art teams, in a senior or lead capacity.
    • Expertise in Maya and Unreal Engine.
    • Ability to create 3D production assets and Substance materials (Painter and/or Designer).
    • Ability to work in a collaborative environment with different disciplines outside of art

Pluses

    • You have interest in other art tools like Blender, 3D Coat and Houdini etc.
    • You have a passion for science fiction, movies and cinematography.
