Who we are
The Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) works at the centre of the province’s power system, ensuring Ontarians have access to reliable and cost-effective electricity when and where they need it.
We operate the province’s electricity grid 24 / 7, design, run and oversee the wholesale electricity markets, and plan and prepare to meet Ontario’s electricity needs now and into the future.
The opportunity
Reporting to the Supervisor, Market Rules, this Specialist is responsible for Market Rules’ business process document review and development and change management programs, ensuring their overall consistency with the needs related to the Market Rules’ accountabilities, while also ensuring that the Market Rules’ processes and documentation are Market Renewal Program ready.
What you'll do
- Analyzes current ( as-is ) business processes and, and in consultation with Market Rules team, updates as-is processes and designs to-be business processes, as necessary, based on business needs;
- Through different business process analysis techniques facilitates the gathering and documentation of business requirements, including non-functional requirements and human performance requirements;
- Creates / Updates Process Maps;
- Produces Process Models and Specifications;
- Works with the project manager, project sponsor, process owner, and other team members to define metrics, where required;
- Acts as a liaison between Market Rules and IT representatives to effectively communicate business needs and technical details to ensure a clear and complete understanding and alignment;
- Participates in transitioning the requirements to other Market Rules team members, and ensures a clear and complete understanding and alignment;
- Reviews deliverables from other team members to ensure quality and alignment with business process procedures and guidelines.
- Defines and implements requirements analysis approaches for the project;
- Adheres to established requirement analysis approaches and business process methodologies, notation and templates;
- Contributes to the authoring of the Project, or Program, Charter as an initiating and evolving document within the Portfolio and Project Management Lifecycle (PPMLC).
- Produces Information Models and Catalogues;
- Captures requirements in a traceability tool;
- Conduct traceability activities to ensure that the all requirements are aligned and delivered throughout the project phases;
- Where required, works with IESO Business Analyses team to update Enterprise Process Catalogue to reflect new or revised business processes;
- Reviews all relevant project deliverables, as needed.
- Keeps current with latest trends in business process analysis and maintains knowledge of current best practices in business process analysis.
- Performs other duties (special assignments) as may be assigned by the Supervisor.
What you need to succeed
Required
- Successful completion of 4 years of university education in an appropriate discipline or equivalent education
- Knowledge encompassing the relevant technical fields including computer science, engineering, technical service delivery, finance, risk management, and customer service.
- Knowledge of business analysis theory, principles, and practices including the International Institute for Business Analysis (IIBA) best practices.
- Knowledge of Business and IT business methods, procedures and organization structures in order to be aware of limitations that can be imposed and to recognize factors influencing the effective implementation of methodologies, risk and business analysis-related activities.
- Solid knowledge and thorough understanding of IIBA methodology, standards, techniques and tools.
- Proven history of contributing to projects using both Waterfall and Agile methodologies.
- Proven ability to work in an ambiguous environment and collaborate across multiple areas in order to identify and achieve common business objectives.
- Strong and tested business process analysis skills stemming from both failed and successful project experience and lessons learned.
- Demonstrated hands on experience achieving business objectives on large complex enterprise wide projects in a complex service delivery environment.
- Solid understanding of software development lifecycle; project management lifecycle; business, solution and technology architecture;
and IT and business operations.
- Experience leading the gathering and identification of project business process objectives, performance measures, expected benefits and constraints to align expectations and get agreement between sponsor and project participants.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, present, justify and gain approval for process and information documentation from the project sponsor and stakeholders including senior executives, as required.
- Experience modelling processes using standard Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN).
- Experience identify and / or facilitate process risks and control requirements.
- Ability to lead and develop key business analysis approaches and deliverables for both projects and business analysis engagements.
Assets
IIBA certification at the level of Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP) is preferred.

The IESO offers a hybrid work model program to most of our employees, based on business needs. Individuals participating in the program can work an average of three days per week remotely within Ontario.
It also offers three flex weeks when individuals can work remotely within Ontario . When working in the office, you will be located at our Mississauga, Oakville or Toronto location.
