Course Number, Section, and Name: COMM (01, 03, 05, 17, 19) – Introduction to Indigenous Business in Canada
Course Description: This course examines the historic, legal, political, cultural, social, and economic contexts that shape Indigenous business in Canada. Grounded in the principles of Reconciliation, the course emphasizes economic reconciliation, respectful relations, and inclusive business practices. Students will explore the diverse ways Indigenous Peoples and communities pursue business and economic development that aligns with and advances their values, rights, and ways of knowing. Students will critically consider the role of businesses and institutions in advancing equity, supporting Indigenous sovereignty, and contributing to being more inclusive economy.

Course Number, Section, and Name: COMM (01) – Entrepreneurial Thinking & Innovation
Course Description: This course develops students' entrepreneurial thinking; the mindsets, behaviours, and problem solving approaches used to navigate uncertainty and create value. Using design thinking, systems thinking, and innovation frameworks, students work collaboratively to identify opportunities, understand user needs, and develop and test innovative solutions. Guest speakers from industry, entrepreneurship, and the innovation ecosystem deepen learning by connecting theory to real world practice. The course emphasizes prototyping, iterative refinement, and pitching concepts that integrate disruptive and sustaining innovation, ethical considerations, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals to create economic, social, and environmental value.

Course Description: This course helps students develop the digital marketing knowledge and skills required to successfully develop and implement comprehensive and coherent digital marketing plans. Specifically, students gain digital marketing competencies, including in the areas content marketing, social media marketing, paid search, YouTube and display advertising, and email marketing. This course is delivered by local instructors in partnership with the Digital Marketing Institute (DMI). Completion of both Digital Marketing Mastery I (COMM and Digital Marketing Mastery II (COMM results in DMI certification.

Course Description: Principled relationships of Indigenous Nations, enterprises and people with mainstream business and institutions in Canada is critical to realizing mutual success and benefit for all across these lands. This course will guide and enable students through their learning, reflection and application of shared knowledge, skills and practices, all situated within Indigenous experience, engagement, communication, and relationships with business in Canada. Students will be guided along a structured learning journey building from their respective bases of knowledge, comfort and experience. This learning will actively develop, relate and apply purposeful and respectful knowledge, techniques and principles within Indigenous and Canadian business situations.

Course Description: The Edwards MBA capstone project allows individuals or a team of students to study a cross-disciplinary issue, problem, or opportunity of operational, organizational, or strategic significance. The students will apply and integrate the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the program to determine the best course of action for the organization and present their findings in a final report. Students can also participate in an entrepreneurial, team-based venture management project that takes them through the process of developing/refining an idea for a New Venture, researching, and analyzing that opportunity, writing a detailed and compelling Business Plan, and creating/presenting a “Business Plan Pitch” to an external review panel.

Qualifications: Consistent with its goal of maintaining business school accreditation, Edwards School of Business will recruit individuals with the following qualifications:

  • a graduate or professional degree, or professional certification, in a field relevant to the course
  • relevant professional experience and ongoing professional engagement clearly linked to the field in which the candidate is expected to teach
  • professional engagement activities must be substantive and sustained at levels that support currency and relevance for Edwards' mission
  • previous teaching experience is an asset

A valid driver’s license is required for any off-campus courses. Appointment periods include additional days in recognition of preparation and marking time required. Courses may be cancelled due to low enrolment.
