Job Summary

The Department of Family Medicine delivers the largest postgraduate residency program in the Faculty of Health Sciences at Queen's University through a distributed education model with its primary site at Kingston and the Thousand Islands and satellite offices in Belleville, Peterborough, and Oshawa. It is home to the Centre for Studies in Primary Care. It operates the Queen's Faculty Health Team located in Kingston and Belleville, an inter-professional health care centre servicing the Kingston and Belleville communities.

Reporting to the Research Manager and receiving direction from the Department of Family Medicine (DFM) Research Director, Quality Improvement (QI) Lead, and Principal Investigators, the Resident Research Associate supports the delivery of Family Medicine resident Quality Improvement (QI) and Research curricula and contributes to Centre for Studies in Primary Care (CSPC) research initiatives.

The role includes supporting residents in completing their QI and research projects, coordinating the annual Primary Care Research Day (PCRD) conference, and organizing resident research teaching sessions. The Resident Research Associate also supports faculty research by contributing to grant applications, developing study protocols, and supporting ongoing projects, including data collection, analysis, and knowledge translation.

Occasional travel to all three distributed DFM sites (Belleville, Peterborough, Oshawa) is required.

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Support family medicine residents in the design and execution of QI and research projects, including study design, methodology, ethics applications, data collection tools, analysis, and preparation of oral or poster presentations for PCRD.
• Maintain and update resident QI and research educational resources.
• Liaise with DFM education team, CSPC faculty and staff to coordinate QI and research education sessions.
• Participate in the delivery of resident QI, research and Journal Club education sessions at all four sites (Kingston, Belleville, Oshawa, Peterborough) of the DFM.
• Coordinate the annual Primary Care Research Day conference in partnership with the CSPC Administrative Assistant and Research Manager, including logistics, communications, and on site delivery.
• Contribute to the development and completion of research proposals and grant applications, including coordination with co-applicants, Research Services, and funding agencies (e.g., CIHR, SSHRC).
• Assist in the design of study protocols, data collection tools (surveys, databases, interview guides etc.) and ethics applications to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate assigned research projects, including timelines, meetings, and communications to study team, community partners and participants, maintaining detailed study records.
• Support study operations, including participant recruitment, consent, data collection, quantitative and qualitative data analysis and dissemination activities (drafting abstracts, reports, presentations, and manuscripts).
• Undertake other duties or special projects as required under the direction of the Manager and/or Director, CSPC.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Health Sciences, or related field is required.
• Several years (minimum 5+) research experience in a related field is required.
• Experience utilizing Research Software is required.
• Experience working with students (teaching, lecturing, tutoring) is considered an asset.
• A valid G-class Driver’s License is required.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

SPECIAL SKILLS:

• Experience with Queen's-based systems (TRAQ, Elentra, OnQ, etc.) an asset.

• Escalates concerns about educational outcomes to appropriate faculty or staff when necessary.
• Prioritizes and allocates workload across multiple concurrent projects, ensuring timelines and deliverables are met effectively.
• Determines appropriate communication strategies and stakeholder engagement approaches when coordinating with residents, faculty, and community partners.
• Identifies risks or barriers to project progress and implements mitigation strategies, escalating issues when necessary to maintain project integrity and compliance.
