Payroll Supervisor / Consultant
Lakeshore Talent is seeking an experienced Payroll Supervisor to oversee and manage end-to-end North American payroll operations in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. This role is responsible for processing and auditing U.S. and Canadian payroll, ensuring compliance with all applicable legislation, managing payroll reporting and reconciliations, and serving as the primary payroll subject matter expert for the organization.

Salary: $65,000–$80,000 + Bonus Eligibility

Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations
- Process and audit bi-weekly payroll for U.S. and Canadian employees accurately and on time
- Manage all aspects of payroll administration, including approvals, payroll changes, exemptions, deductions, and supplemental payrolls
- Apply and maintain statutory deductions and tax withholdings for both Canada and the U.S.
- Partner with HR to ensure new hires, terminations, compensation changes, and employee updates are processed accurately
- Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll inquiries, reconciliations, audits, and system-related issues
- Handle payroll quarter-end and year-end activities and reporting
Compliance & Regulatory Reporting
- Ensure payroll compliance with Canadian and U.S. payroll legislation, tax regulations, and labor standards
- Prepare and reconcile year-end payroll filings and documentation, including T4s, RL-1s, W-2s, W-3s, and related summaries
- Coordinate with payroll tax vendors and government agencies regarding payroll tax filings and inquiries
- Support payroll audits, compliance reviews, and government requests
- Prepare and submit Records of Employment (ROEs) and respond to payroll-related compliance inquiries as needed
- Maintain payroll controls and ensure payroll processes remain compliant and up to date
Reconciliations & Reporting
- Reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts, deductions, tax withholdings, and payroll liabilities
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
- Generate monthly, quarterly, annual, and ad hoc payroll reports
- Research taxation requirements related to pay and deduction codes
Systems & Process Improvement
- Support payroll system maintenance, testing, upgrades, and configuration changes
- Partner with HR, Finance, and Internal Audit teams to improve payroll processes and controls
- Identify opportunities to increase payroll accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency
Qualifications
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field
- PCP, CPM, or CPP designation preferred or currently in progress
- Minimum 5+ years of full-cycle payroll experience, including payroll leadership or supervisory responsibilities
- Strong experience processing both Canadian and U.S. payroll, including multi-state payroll administration
- Experience supporting payroll for approximately 350 employees across North America
- Deep understanding of Canadian and U.S. payroll legislation, taxation, year-end processing, and compliance requirements
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll systems, specifically Dayforce
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage confidential employee information
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Self-starter with the ability to prioritize competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Bilingual French/English is considered an asset
