About the Role
Danby Appliances is seeking a Trade Compliance and Operations Specialist to join our Customs & Logistics team on a 3-month contract basis. This role will support customs compliance, tariff classification, and trade operations across both Canada and the United States.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring compliance with CBSA and CBP regulations while supporting the operational flow of imported goods across multiple business channels. This is an excellent opportunity for a customs and trade professional looking to expand beyond transactional processing into broader compliance and operational ownership.
Key Responsibilities
- Support tariff classification activities across finished goods, components, accessories, and spare parts
- Review and validate HS/HTS classifications and customs documentation
- Work closely with customs brokers, freight partners, and internal stakeholders to support compliant import operations
- Assist with customs audits, verifications, post-entry corrections, and regulatory reviews
- Monitor CBSA and CBP regulatory changes and support internal compliance initiatives
- Maintain accurate customs records and product classification data across systems
- Support Duty Drawback programs and trade compliance projects
- Assist with SOP development, process improvements, and operational efficiencies
- Identify potential compliance risks and escalate concerns appropriately
- Support day-to-day customs operations and shipment issue resolution
Qualifications & Experience
- 3–7 years of experience in customs, trade compliance, customs brokerage, or import/export operations
- Strong understanding of HS/HTS classification, customs documentation, valuation, and origin rules
- Experience working with CBSA and/or CBP regulations
- Familiarity with customs systems, broker platforms, and ERP environments
- Experience supporting audits, shipment reviews, or post-entry corrections is considered an asset
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS), Licensed Customs Broker, or related designation
- Experience within consumer goods, appliances, manufacturing, or logistics environments
- Familiarity with Duty Drawback programs, SIMA, or trade remedies
- Exposure to both Canadian and U.S. customs processes
