The mandate of the Department of Environment and Climate Change is to manage land, water, air, wildlife, and forests. This includes promoting, planning, and supporting the wise and sustainable use of natural resources, and protecting, restoring, and stewarding the environment for the social and economic benefit of all Northwest Territories residents.

Job Information Are you passionate about protecting the environment and contributing to sustainable development in the North? The Department of Environment and Climate Change (ECC) is seeking a Project Manager, Contaminated Sites to lead and coordinate projects that assess, remediate, and monitor contaminated sites across the Northwest Territories.

In this role, you will manage environmental projects of varying size and complexity, working with multidisciplinary teams and partners to reduce environmental risks and support healthy communities.

Key Responsibilities

Manage contaminated site projects from assessment through remediation and monitoring

Prepare and oversee contracts, including scopes of work and contractor performance

Develop and manage project plans, budgets, timelines, and reporting

Lead multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders

Provide technical advice and support decision-making on environmental risks and solutions

Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, permits, and GNWT policies

Contribute to program planning, funding prioritization, and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications & Experience An undergraduate degree from an accredited university in an applicable engineering, geology, geoscience field or an applicable environmental science field, along with a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible related experience.

Strong knowledge of environmental site assessments (Phase I/II/III), remediation, and monitoring

Proven project management and contract management experience

Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively with diverse partners

Knowledge of Northern context and Indigenous engagement is considered an asset

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered

Equivalences A Master¿s degree from an accredited university in an applicable engineering, geology, geoscience field or an applicable environmental science field along with a minimum of 2 years of progressively responsible related experience, two years of which in a supervisory role.

A Diploma from an accredited university or College in an applicable engineering, geology, geoscience field or an applicable environmental science field, along with a minimum of 6 years of progressively responsible related experience, two years of which in a supervisory role.

Environmental Science field: Applicable environmental science field means a post-secondary discipline with a primary focus on environmental assessment, environmental management, contaminated sites, hydrogeology, geology, geochemistry, earth sciences, environmental engineering, or closely related studies relevant to contaminated sites investigation, remediation, and monitoring

Related experience = Technical experience in contaminated sites work, including contaminated sites management; scoping, of environmental site assessments; remediation; risk assessment; monitoring programs; field program execution; regulatory application and permitting processes; and environmental data evaluation, interpretation, and reporting. Experience may include industrial, commercial, residential, and/or agricultural sites, and work involving soil, surface water, groundwater, and sediment.
