Your Opportunity: The Senior Advisor - Safety & Compliance is responsible for leading Central Zone’s Capital Management Department in the development, implementation, and maintenance of compliance-related initiatives related to government legislation, industry standards, and organizational policy. This role works autonomously under direction from the zone director and uses resourcefulness and independent judgement. It is recognized as an expert in workplace health and safety with specialized skills in other core accountabilities. The Senior Advisor communicates effectively, builds coalitions across department boundaries, and leads, mentors, and coaches departmental leaders to create a culture of compliance with government and organizational requirements related to facility operations, maintenance, and capital projects. The role requires ongoing expertise in regulations, codes, standards, policies, and practices related to core programs, especially workplace health and safety, to ensure consistent development, review, and implementation of procedures throughout the Central Zone. A portfolio of business skills (business writing, gap analysis, process mapping, metrics, etc.) supports the development, execution, monitoring, and reporting of programs. The role is flexible and adaptable to environmental diversity and requires excellent communications and presentation skills, along with proficiency in computer use and the development of tracking systems and reports. Travel to various rural sites may be required. Core Responsibilities
Develop, implement, maintain, and audit a safety program for the Central Zone capital management departments. Collaborate with capital management Directors, Managers, and front-line staff to establish program details and monitor site compliance. Ensure capital management staff are informed, trained, and equipped to perform tasks safely. Remain current with key government and WHS documents, including the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Handbook and the Workplace Health & Safety Management System Standard; reference these documents in the development, execution, and maintenance of the zone safety program (e.g., HIAC and FLRA). Investigate root causes of incidents and take corrective action where appropriate. Make decisions grounded in organizational policies. Represent Capital Management on provincial committees to develop policy and create guidance documents as needed. Liaise with OHS and WHS provincial and municipal officers. Monitor compliance of the Electrical Safety Program. Qualifications
A safety designation (CHSC, CRSP). Five years of proven success leading a team in the development, implementation, and auditing of a safety program. A valid 5th class Alberta driver’s license. Proficient in English. Additional and Preferred Qualifications
As required. Certified training in Root Cause Analysis. Experience in both industrial and institutional environments related to day-to-day facilities maintenance and capital projects (asset).
