The Opportunity:
The Communications Assistant is an introductory role into Communications and provides support to the communications team in delivering effective messaging and engagement with the community. This role provides support to advisors by implementing tactical communications tasks, planning events.
Responsibilities include:
• Assist Communications Advisors in developing and implementing tactical communications tasks including booking ads, liaising with advertising reps, writing content for social media, posting to the website, etc.; Liaise with Airdrie Life Magazine for quarterly advertorial and advertising
• Coordinate, plan, and implement events including State of the City, Airdrie Fest, and Home & Lifestyle Show; provide on-site support to ensure successful event execution
• Conduct research on relevant issues, trends, and best practices in communications and public relations to inform decision-making and enhance communication strategies; Gather measurement metrics on communications campaigns and provide monthly reports to the team
• Support outreach efforts to engage residents, stakeholders, and community groups through various channels, including social media, email newsletters, and community forums
You Bring:
• A minimum certificate in Communications or Marketing required
• Diploma or degree in Communications, Public Relations or Marketing preferred
• ICS, BEM, PIO, and other crisis-related training would be considered an asset
• A minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of experience in communications or marketing
• Experience in speech writing and other forms of writing for communications an asset
• Experience in event planning, media relations, or public sector communications is an asset
• Strong knowledge and understanding of CP style
• Sound knowledge of advertising, media, social media, design coordination and print production
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with social media platforms and content management systems
• Proven track record of building effective working relationships
• Superior time management and organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines
• Exceptional writing skills and strong verbal communications skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Excellent attention to detail
• High level of confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
• Well-developed conceptual and problem solving skills
• A can-do, positive attitude

This is a part-time 12-month term position with 26.25 hours per week.
