Community Energy Innovation Center Project Manager

COMPETITION NUMBER: 1684

CLOSING DATE: MAY 18, 2026 @ 11:59PM MDT FACULTY OF RESEARCH NorQuest College’s Community Energy Innovation Center (CEIC) advances applied research, innovation, and community partnerships to support Alberta’s transition to more sustainable, affordable, and community‑centered energy systems. The CEIC works with government, industry, communities, and academic partners to co‑develop practical solutions that build community wealth, capacity, and resilience in the energy transition. This one‑year term position, with potential for extension, is an opportunity to lead from where you are by turning great ideas into funded, community energy projects that make a real impact in Alberta. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, the CEIC Project Consultant reports to the Dean, Faculty of Research, and works closely with the CEIC Lead and NorQuest’s applied research team. The Consultant’s primary focus is securing and managing funding that enables CEIC’s community energy research, demonstration projects, and partnership initiatives, while also conducting applied research in community energy systems. The role plays a key part in coordinating internal activities, liaising with stakeholders, managing budgets, and advancing deliverables across multiple initiatives. How you'll make a difference

Funding, Grants, and Fundraising

Identify funding opportunities from federal, provincial, municipal, industry, and community sources to support CEIC projects and programs. Coordinate large multi‑stakeholder (academic, industry, community, government) partnership development initiatives on community energy in Alberta and Canada. Support the development, coordination, and writing of tri‑council grant submissions. Write and coordinate high‑quality research proposals, EOIs, and grants that address community energy needs for Alberta communities and businesses. Operate in an entrepreneurial manner by seeking funding to support projects and programs, and by soliciting funding that creates projects and jobs related to community energy initiatives. Develop and maintain relationships with funding agencies, government departments, industry partners, and community organizations. Applied Research and Program Development

Analyze current and projected needs for community energy research, innovation, and adaptation to meet Albertan needs and interests. Conduct applied research on community energy, including literature reviews, data collection and analysis, and the design and delivery of community energy projects. Plan, develop, and deploy community energy infrastructure, platforms, and initiatives that meet organizational and community needs. Develop strategic plans, programs, and policies that support the use and scaling of community energy initiatives. Project Management and Coordination

Manage contracts, projects, and other initiatives focused on community energy, including timelines, deliverables, and risk mitigation. Coordinate with research project‑related staff, including directing and reviewing work and overseeing the ongoing delivery of initiatives. Develop terms of reference for projects and prepare documents, budgets, and reports on project progress and results. Partnerships, Promotion, and Engagement

Develop partnerships and agreements with industry, community agencies, and other organizations to advance community energy and economic development. Build and maintain networks by facilitating connections with academic, industry, and community partners, and support the CEIC Lead’s participation in sector‑specific committees. Assist or support in planning and executing symposia, workshops, and public events related to CEIC’s mission. Develop and present materials to students, special interest groups, and the public, and organize forums for discussion of community energy matters. What you bring

Bachelor’s degree in environment, community energy, sustainability, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in research and development in both institutional and community‑based settings, with first‑hand experience developing and implementing projects. Demonstrated experience in developing new projects and overseeing existing projects, including managing multiple budgets. Strong research and analytical skills to design and implement independent projects and community energy initiatives in Alberta. Knowledge of federal, provincial/territorial, and regional research and development initiatives relevant to community energy. What makes you a difference maker?

Advanced computer skills, including databases, spreadsheets, word processors, statistical packages, and desktop publishing. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for meetings, workshops, partnership building, contract negotiation, proposals, budgets, and technical and plain‑language reports. Strong planning, problem‑solving, and organizational skills, with the ability to work within restrictive time constraints and short timelines. Knowledge and experience working in cross‑cultural environments, with strong interpersonal skills for collaborating with community and provincial organizations. Self‑motivated, independent, and innovative, with the ability to adapt to new situations and work both independently and in a team environment. Salary:

$3,554 - $4,443 bi‑weekly reflective upon your education and experience. This is a full‑time one‑year term position, with opportunities for extension based on funding and performance.
