The Prince George Native Friendship Centre (PGNFC) delivers programs and services through a lens of reconciliation, as we have been doing since the inception of the PGNFC for the past 50+ years. Cultural Support Worker (Full Time)

Indigenous Complex Care Housing

The Prince George Native Friendship Centre requires a knowledgeable and experienced Cultural Support Worker to join our team. The Cultural Support Worker will play a crucial role in providing expert guidance on cultural practices, values, and sensitivities to enhance the effectiveness of our projects and initiatives. This position involves working closely with diverse teams, stakeholders, and communities to ensure cultural competence and respect in all organizational activities.

This position works within the Indigenous Complex Care Housing and supports the 10 residents engaging in the Program. Staff will be on site 24/7 and will provide a safe and comfortable home for qualifying individuals. The Program will aim to fill the gap in services for Indigenous people who are not adequately supported through the traditional supportive housing model.

The program welcomes adult females or males ages 19 and over living with mental health issues, substance use and/or concurrent health conditions, who are experiencing impacts to their daily functioning, and overall health and experiencing houselessness or who are precariously housed.

Qualifications include:

  • Certificate and/or degree/diploma in cultural studies.
  • Living and lived experience of Indigenous cultural practices a must.
  • Experience in a similar role, with a proven track record of advising on cultural matters.
  • Experience working with Indigenous communities.
  • Experience in trauma informed counselling and crisis intervention.
  • Experience in working with Indigenous groups/communities in a cultural context.
  • Certification, First Aid, Class 4 Driver's License, Crisis Prevention Intervention, Suicide Intervention, Food Safe; are required but will consider applicants willing to achieve after hire.
  • Ability to undergo a successful criminal record search.
  • Wages $26/hr. - $29/hr. based on qualifications and experience with a full benefit plan and RRSP contributions.
