The Assistant Pharmacy Manager supports clinical pharmacy operations through direct patient engagement while overseeing day-to-day workflow, including coordination of team members and operational execution. This role also contributes periodically to stakeholder engagement and business development activities within a specialized pharmacy environment.

Key Responsibilities

Pharmacy Operations & Workflow

  • Support the Pharmacy Manager in overseeing daily pharmacy operations, including workflow coordination, inventory management, and medication preparation and dispensing.
  • Assist with the safe and accurate handling and dispensing of specialty medications.
  • Contribute to staff pharmacist workflows as required.
  • Monitor operational efficiency and ensure adherence to established processes and standards.

Team Supervision & Development

  • Supervise, train, and support pharmacy team members in daily activities.
  • Delegate tasks effectively and ensure quality standards are consistently met.
  • Support team productivity through active oversight and guidance.

Patient & Stakeholder Experience

  • Ensure excellence across all patient, prescriber, and stakeholder interactions.
  • Maintain a high standard of service delivery focused on safety, accuracy, and responsiveness.

Compliance, Quality & Regulatory Standards

  • Ensure pharmacy operations comply with applicable provincial regulatory requirements and professional standards.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with internal policies and standard operating procedures, including clinical and operational reporting requirements (e.g., incident reporting, adverse event reporting, and product quality issues).
  • Stay current on updated protocols, procedures, and communications to ensure compliant practice.

Specialty Handling & Product Integrity

  • Ensure proper handling, storage, and shipping standards are maintained for temperature-sensitive and specialty medications.
  • Maintain strict adherence to cold chain and product integrity requirements for biologics and other specialty therapies.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide clear direction and set measurable expectations for team performance and accountability.
  • Coach, mentor, and support team members through ongoing feedback and structured performance development.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance team environment aligned with organizational goals and values.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensure timely reporting of patient safety events and product quality issues in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support operational enhancements.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education

  • Post-secondary education in pharmacy or equivalent relevant experience.

Licensing & Experience

  • Licensed to practice pharmacy in the applicable province.
  • Minimum of 1+ year of pharmacy experience, including exposure to team supervision or people management responsibilities.

Skills & Competencies

  • Experience in a specialty pharmacy environment is considered a strong asset.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Word).
  • Strong customer service skills when engaging with patients, prescribers, and stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently within a distributed or remote team structure.
  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Effective problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve operational and clinical issues efficiently.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership capabilities.
  • English language proficiency is required.
  • Bilingual capability (English/French) may be required depending on role, location, and operational needs.
