JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic, strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Mechanical Technician – General Machinist.

Reporting to the Supervisor, Maintenance, this position is responsible for setting up and operating machine tools to manufacture parts to blueprint specifications, using jigs/fixtures and precision measuring instruments to maintain required tolerances.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Set up and operate equipment such as lathes, drills, and milling machines.
• Determine and prepare any jigs or special attachments needed for the tasks.
• Read and interpret blueprints or drawings required to complete assignments, and prepare your own layouts.
• Use micrometers, vernier calipers, and other precision measuring tools to ensure that in-process measurements or finished products match specified tolerances.
• Perform maintenance and cleanup of the work area.

EDUCATION

• Have a minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent

QUALIFICATIONS

• Hold a General Machinist Certificate of Qualification (429A)
• Experience with Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machining
• Experience with Mazak Variaxis or Integrex, along with proficiency in Mazatrol programming and Mastercam CAD/CAM 3D modelling, is an asset
• Willing to work rotating 12-hour shifts (weekends/holidays)
• Eligible to work in Canada and Canadian equivalency for foreign education, if applicable
• Strong problem-solving, communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills; tech/computer comfortable; self-starter
• Safety/environmental compliance focus; Health and Safety experience an asset
• Technical: documentation/records, interpret drawings/manuals/tools, troubleshoot
• Radiation/contamination control knowledge; pass Radiation Protection training/exams
• Physical: heights/harness, confined spaces, hot/cold; lift 50 lb; forklift/EWP; valid Ontario G license is an asset
