Located on the traditional, ancestral and unceded lands of theSquamish Nation, Tsleil-Waututh Nation and Musqueam Nation, West Vancouver is a vibrant community on the North Shore and home to parks, beaches, and sports, recreation and arts amenities. Our dedicated staff deliver services, operate facilities, and run programs that enhance the well-being of our community. We are seeking employees with a passion for public service who share our commitment to creating a complete, inclusive and livable community.

The Community Services Department has an opening for a Facilitator for the “Whatever” Program, a drop-in program for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and their allies in grades 8 to 12 that offers a supportive, caring environment to hang out and be heard. Reporting to the Youth Services Program Coordinator, the “Whatever” Program Facilitator is responsible for:

·facilitating a variety of social and recreational activities and events for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth, primarily in a drop-in setting;

·ensuring the meaningful involvement of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth in the development, planning and execution of the various programs and events;

·reading and preparing routine reports and providing drop-in statistics;

· working collaboratively with all Youth Services staff and attending staff meetings and in-services; and,

· performing other related work, as required.

The preferred candidate will have completion of Grade 12, supplemented by post-secondary courses related to the work (i.e., Child and Youth Care, Recreation, etc.) plus related lived, professional and/or volunteer experience to demonstrate required skills, or an equivalent combination of training and afore-mentioned experience; and current Emergency First Aid (or better), CPR ‘C’ and AED certification.

Preferred candidates possess a strong understanding of youth's diverse needs, concerns, and psychosocial development to create and maintain safe, inclusive, and engaging spaces for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth.They communicate effectively, prioritize meaningful youth engagement, and build genuine, trusting relationships while upholding appropriate ethics and professional boundaries. They act as a positive role model, provide information and appropriate referrals, and work both independently and collaboratively within a diverse community setting.

We recognize the importance of a diverse workplace and strive to meaningfully reflect the community we so proudly serve. We encourage Indigenous applicants, people of colour, all genders, 2SLGBTQIA+, and persons with disabilities to apply.

The successful candidate will be required to supply a police information check with vulnerable sector and a copy of their credentials.
