Duties
The PC-02 physical scientist will be working on federal government funded research projects, and potentially client research projects, related to the environmental impacts of natural resource development.
The PC-02 will be required to develop geochemical model simulations for a range of environmental contamination studies. This position requires a strong understanding of contaminant transport in porous media, and modelling the chemical behaviour of organic and inorganic species in groundwater and / or soils.
A working familiarity with geochemical modelling software (PHREEQC, Geochemist’s Workbench) is essential, and experience with the TOUGH and PetraSim modelling software would be considered an asset.
The successful candidate will be working in the Environmental Impacts team at CanmetENERGY Devon lab in the following areas :
1.History matching previous experimental contaminant studies
2.Modelling oil migration from conventional and unconventional oil leakage from pipelines,
3.Tailings leachate studies
4.CO2 / H2 migration within geological storage sites
Work environment
CanmetENERGY Devon research centre is located within a 20-minute drive from south Edmonton. Although there is no public transit available to the research centre, parking is free.
This is a hybrid position which requires a minimum of three days per week in the workplace, as mandated by the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's guidelines on prescribed workplace presence.
The successful candidate can expect to work with research scientists, technologists, chemists and engineers and will contribute to scientific publications related to contaminant transport studies undertaken.
Intent of the process
The intent of this selection process is to create a pool of (fully or partially) qualified candidates will be established through this process to staff identical or similar positions with various tenures (determinate period or indeterminate), with various linguistic requirement and for various bilingual linguistic profiles, various security requirements, various conditions of employment and for various locations.
