MatchBox Consulting Group is currently seeking a Senior Data Engineer for a 6 month contract role with a client of ours located in Vancouver.
Responsibilities:
- Designing and implementing scalable data architectures and data products using Azure, Databricks, Delta Lake, and PySpark
- Building enterprise-level common entities and reusable datasets that serve multiple business domains
- Developing and optimizing ETL/ELT frameworks that support operational and analytical workloads
- Leading initiatives that improve data quality, data observability, and trust in enterprise datasets
- Supporting implementation of DCE's Data Quality Framework through automated validation, monitoring, and alerting
- Establishing metadata, lineage, and governance standards that improve discoverability and self-service adoption
- Collaborating with Product Managers and business stakeholders to prioritize and deliver high-value data capabilities
- Partnering with Platform, Architecture, Security, and Governance teams to ensure scalable and secure solutions
- Mentoring junior engineers through code reviews, technical design sessions, and hands-on coaching
- Leading cross-functional design reviews and contributing to technical roadmap planning
- Defining CI/CD best practices, infrastructure automation, testing standards, and deployment processes
- Exploring emerging technologies and opportunities to improve data delivery, automation, and analytics enablement
Requirements:
- 5-8+ years of experience in data engineering, with expertise in cloud-based data platforms, preferably Azure
- Advanced SQL and Python skills, with hands-on experience developing scalable data pipelines and data models
- Strong experience with Databricks, Spark/PySpark, Delta Lake, and modern data engineering practices
- Experience building and maintaining enterprise data products and reusable data assets
- Implemented data quality controls, monitoring frameworks, and observability solutions
- Solid experience with CI/CD, source control, testing methodologies, and infrastructure automation
- Strong understanding of data modeling, dimensional design, and enterprise data architecture principles
- Experience collaborating with business stakeholders and translating business needs into technical solutions
- Experience mentoring engineers and contributing to technical leadership within a team
- Curious, collaborative, and passionate about enabling data-driven decision-making at scale
Nice to have:
- Experience with Microsoft Purview or similar metadata and governance platforms
- Experience implementing data quality, data contracts, or data observability frameworks
- Experience supporting self-service analytics enablement initiatives
- Experience working in retail, supply chain, e-commerce, or consumer products organizations
- Experience with AI/ML data pipelines or advanced analytics platforms
