Job Summary
We’re hiring Casual Registered Nurses, Medicine, PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) to join our team at Delta Hospital located in Delta, BC. Delta is a vibrant, rapidly growing suburban city blending urban and rural landscapes, composed of Ladner, Tsawwassen, and North Delta. Detailed Overview

In accordance with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) standards and Fraser Health’s mission, the Registered Nurse provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating nursing care to patients in an acute medical unit or outpatient IV setting, including residential and home environments. Responsibilities include IV therapy care, PICC insertions, and related duties such as line maintenance, catheter troubleshooting, thrombolysis, and patient education.

Responsibilities

  • Performs PICC insertions to establish or maintain intravenous therapy. Performs venipuncture, initiates IV infusion devices as required, monitors line status, troubleshoots line issues, and performs thrombolysis to clear clogged lines.
  • Assesses patients receiving IV therapy, collects information through observation, communication, data review, and physical assessment to form a nursing diagnosis and determine appropriate interventions.
  • Provides IV therapy care and related duties such as line insertion and maintenance, medication administration, line monitoring, clotting issues management, blood draws through PICCs, intake coordination into the IV program, patient suitability for community‑based IV programs, and education on IV care and self‑management.
  • Collaborates with patients and families to develop care plans, encourages family participation, establishes therapeutic relationships through empathy, trust, and respect, and advocates for patient rights to privacy, dignity, and autonomy.
  • Participates in care and discharge planning, ensures effective implementation of care plans, updates and intervenes as appropriate, collaborates with interprofessional teams, and coordinates with the Patient Care Coordinator and Manager.
  • Coordinates nursing care, sets priorities, delegates tasks, and refers to the interprofessional team as per protocols.
  • Collaborates with team members—including physicians, LPNs, coordinators, educators, and other professionals—to resolve issues and adjust care plans.
  • Teaches patients and families about illness prevention, health restoration, and maintenance to help patients meet health goals.
  • Plans referral information in collaboration with the interprofessional team to initiate referrals to appropriate community agencies.
  • Documents assessments, diagnoses, observations, interventions, patient/family responses, outcomes, and referrals per Fraser Health procedures.
  • Participates in nursing committees, care conferences, and councils as assigned.
  • Engages in research and quality improvement, collecting data, identifying needs, and recommending changes to practices.
  • Attends in‑services and educational programs, identifies learning goals, and maintains clinical competence.
  • Acts as a preceptor or mentor to new nursing staff and students, demonstrating care activities.
  • Provides feedback to the Manager regarding the effectiveness of care programs and equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience
Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Advanced proficiency in PICC insertions. Valid BC Driver’s Licence and access to a personal vehicle for business‑related purposes as required.
