Process Safety Engineer

Overview

Our client, a major Oil and Gas company, is looking for a Process Safety Engineer to join their team on a 1-year contract in the Fort McMurray area. This will be fly in/fly out with flights from Calgary or Edmonton.

Key Accountabilities

• Support team of Process Safety Engineers to promote and provide technical support for Process Safety Management (PSM) in oil sands operations.
• Accountable to develop effective working relationships with all business units to foster the efficient delivery of the Process Safety Engineering discipline.
• Accountable to implement Process Safety requirements in a compliant, effective and efficient manner.
• Lead or oversee incident investigations into significant process safety events. Apply root cause analysis techniques to ensure the root causes of the incidents are identified and addressed.
• Oversee Process Hazard Assessments (PHA) and revalidations for the business units. Assist with hazard identification, evaluation and mitigation as part of capital project.
• Support the application of the Operational Risk Assessment process at the site.
• Participate in the review of corporate Process Safety Engineering Specifications and Standards.
• Ensure annual testing of firewater systems, deluge firewater pump performance and flow capacity tests are complete.
• Support commissioning of fire protection assets in capital projects.
• Oversee facility siting analysis of people occupied buildings (permanent and/or temporary) and/or critical infrastructure in relation to process hazards including vapour cloud explosion, fire or toxic exposures.
• Ensure industry recognized and accepted standards for Process Safety and Fire Protection are followed on site through the application of internal standards, as well as a sound knowledge of industry practices and standards.

Skills & Qualifications

• 10+ years of engineering experience directly supporting a large process facility
• Strong communication and facilitation skills are a requirement in this role.
• Experience with Process Safety Management Systems in facility operations
• Demonstrated ability to influence and persuade managers and leaders in delivering team goals.
• Registration or eligibility to register with APEGA
• Experience in applying a variety of process safety risk management and hazard analysis techniques in an operating environment
• A solid foundation in process engineering with a strong safeguarding and loss prevention background would be an asset in this role
