Job Title:Clinical Nursing Instructor

Course:NUSC4F92 – Community Health Nursing

Department:Nursing

Term of Appointment:Contracts for this course are 12weeks. Clinical days are Tuesday and who accept a NUSC 4F92 contract need to be available via phone or online duringclinical hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

In addition to this,ClinicalNursingInstructors must be available for one 2-hour post-conference per week from 1600-1800on either Tuesday or Thursday (TBD by Course Faculty).

As well,CNIs must be available forapproximately 12 hours of in-person lab sessionsthroughout thetermon either Tuesday or Thursday (TBD by Course Faculty).

Nominal Hours:180

WageRate:$ -$ per hour*

*Thewagerateisdeterminedby seniorityas outlined inArticle16and Appendix Bof theCUPE 4207-Unit 4collective agreement.

Duties:

Reporting to the Undergraduate Clinical Supervisor, the Clinical Nursing Instructor is responsible to:

  • Prepare for and supervise students in a community setting for the experientialcomponentof the course.

  • Collaborate with theCourseInstructor to ensure student activities are aligned with thecourse syllabus and learningobjectives.

  • Review the student’s preparation and plan for their clinical activities with attention and integration of community care plan and public health nursing concepts.

  • Encourage an inquiring, theory, and evidence-based approach to community nursing practice.

  • Model population -centered care.

  • Facilitate students in learning any health & safety requirements of the assigned community.

  • Provide ongoing verbal feedback to students andmaintaina professional relationship with all learners.

  • Guide and supervise students in designing their population-focused assignments using the nursing process.

  • Mark students' assignments, including reflections and population-focused projects, providing constructivefeedbackandall assignmentsdesignatedas the responsibility of the Clinical Nursing Instructor in the syllabus.

  • Facilitate in person simulation sessions for two days in the nursing lab.

  • Complete regular, comprehensive anecdotal notesregardingstudent progress and advise the course professorimmediatelyof serious or ongoing student concerns.

  • Identifygaps andfacilitatethe development and implementation of student plans in partnership with the course instructor asrequired.

  • Facilitate student meetings / post-clinical conferences, and coordinateappropriate resources(, multi-media). Foster discussion and reflection to enhance a positive and respectful learning environment.

  • Adhere to confidentiality and privacy standards and legislation

Qualifications

  • Successful completionof a BScNrequired;Master’sdegree preferred;

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses ofOntario;

  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical work experienceas anurse;

  • Clinical work experienceincommunityhealth nursingand/or clinical teaching experience incommunityhealthnursing within the last 10years;

  • Desire toinstruct and share knowledgewith nursingstudents;

  • Previousexperience as a preceptoror with clinical instructionwould be anasset;

  • Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity,andinclusion;

  • Ability to address concerns and managedifficult situations, and toidentifyand act upon emergencysituations;

  • Effective organizational, time management, and communicationskills;

Note:Successful applicants are expectedto supervise allscheduled/rescheduledclinical dates forthe coursethey ensuresconsistencyand improves theclinical experience for our students.
