Our client is a well-established and respected heavy civil construction company with a strong reputation for quality, safety, and long-standing relationships throughout the Lower Mainland. They are seeking an experienced HR Manager to lead all human resources functions in a standalone leadership role.
Reporting directly to the Owner, the HR Manager will serve as a trusted advisor to leadership and employees, providing both strategic guidance and hands-on HR support. This position is ideal for a well-rounded HR professional who enjoys partnering closely with Operations, influencing people strategies, and enhancing the employee experience.
The Opportunity
This broad HR leadership role offers exposure to all aspects of human resources. Working closely with ownership and Operations, you will support day-to-day employee needs while developing and improving HR policies, programs, processes, and initiatives that support business growth. Success in this role requires strong relationship-building skills, sound judgment, and the ability to balance strategic thinking with practical execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary HR resource and trusted advisor to the Owner, managers, and employees.
- Partner with Operations leaders to understand business needs and provide practical HR solutions.
- Manage the full employee lifecycle, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, development, and offboarding.
- Lead full-cycle recruitment for office and field positions.
- Develop and maintain effective onboarding and orientation programs.
- Provide guidance and support on employee relations matters, performance concerns, attendance management, workplace issues, and policy interpretation.
- Support performance management processes, including coaching, documentation, reviews, and development planning.
- Maintain HR policies, procedures, employee records, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with BC employment legislation and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with leadership to enhance employee engagement, retention, workplace culture, and organizational development initiatives.
- Support compensation and benefits administration and provide market insights as needed.
- Partner with Operations and site leadership to support health and safety programs and initiatives.
- Coordinate employee communications and promote a respectful, accountable, and positive workplace culture.
- Identify opportunities to improve HR systems, processes, and the overall employee experience.
- Prepare HR reports, metrics, and insights to support leadership decision-making.
- Stay informed on employment legislation, HR best practices, and industry trends.

WHAT YOU BRING
· 5+ years of progressive HR experience, ideally in an HR Generalist or HR Manager capacity.
· Experience in construction, industrial, trades, engineering, or another operationally focused environment is highly valued.
· Strong knowledge of BC employment standards and HR best practices.
· Experience managing employee relations and advising managers and employees.
· Full-cycle recruitment experience.
· Strong understanding of performance management, onboarding, policies, and employee engagement.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and credibility at all levels.
· Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
· Practical, solutions-oriented approach to HR.
· High level of discretion and professionalism when handling confidential employee matters.
· Experience working directly with senior leadership or ownership is an asset.
· CPHR designation or working toward designation is considered an asset.
