Position Summary
Do you have a passion for nursing? We have the position for you! We are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse with a dedication for delivering compassionate patient care to join our team at University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC).

In accordance with the established mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities of Northern Health, and under the general supervision of Manager or designate, the Registered Nurse practices in accordance with the standards of Professional Practice and Code of Ethics as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) as well as within a patient and family centered care model.
The Registered Nurse – NICU, working in collaboration with the inter-professional team, plans and provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, providing and evaluating nursing care. The Registered Nurse demonstrates a specialized body of knowledge and bases practice on nursing science and related content from other sciences and humanities.

New Wage: As of April 1, 2024 the new wage is: $41.42 - $55.91/hour

A first in Canada: minimum Nurse-to-Patient Ratios (mNPR) are starting in .! Northern Health, along side other health authorities, is implementing mNPR as a transformative staffing solution that aims to improve the working environment of nurses in order to provide better quality care to our patients.

Qualfications
•Graduation from an approved School of Nursing. Current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse with BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM).
• Advanced preparation in Neonatal clinic specialty or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Basic Life Support (BLS)

Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to complete initial and ongoing patient assessment (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) and provide nursing care through appropriate / prescribed technical, therapeutic, safety type interventions.
• Ability to communicate effectively with families/caregivers, the public, medical staff, and members of the interprofessional team using verbal, written, and electronic communication means.
• Ability to recognize acuity changes and intervene appropriately in emergency situations.
• Expertise in providing nutritional support to infants, including assisting parents with breast/chest feeding.
• Ability to promote family-centered care that demonstrates empathy for patients and families/caregivers, sensitivity to diverse cultures and preferences, and patient advocacy.
• Ability to teach and instruct families/caregivers about topics essential to health care and well-being of the newborn/infant.
• Ability to organize and prioritize work.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all members of the health care team.
• Ability to operate related equipment including relevant computer applications.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
