Senior Accountant – Renewable Energy
Our client is a growing organization in the renewable energy sector seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Senior Accountant to support its finance team with full-cycle accounts payable and receivable, general accounting, and financial close processes.
Base Pay Range
CA$70,000.00/yr – CA$80,000.00/yr
Responsibilities
- Manage the full cycle of vendor invoices, including accurate coding to GL accounts and projects, verifying approvals, and matching to purchase orders.
- Process vendor payments, manage vendor holdbacks, reconcile vendor statements, and assist with maintaining vendor compliance records for Canadian and U.S. projects.
- Prepare and manage company credit card reconciliations.
- Collaborate with project managers to prepare and issue customer invoices in accordance with contracts and milestones.
- Record deposits, reconcile AR subledger, manage customer holdbacks, and follow up on overdue accounts.
- Prepare monthly journal entries, including depreciation, prepaids, interest, foreign exchange, and intercompany service charges.
- Perform weekly and monthly bank reconciliations.
- Prepare GST/HST returns using QuickBooks Desktop.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and analyze variances.
- Record payroll-related journal entries and labour-cost allocations.
- Assist in preparing departmental and project spending reports, including budget-to-actual comparisons.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, including preparing reporting packages and assisting with annual financial statements.
- Provide support during internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to auditor inquiries.
- Contribute to ongoing improvements of accounting processes and internal controls.
- Undertake ad-hoc financial projects and initiatives as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Working toward a CPA designation is an asset but not mandatory.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within construction or project-based accounting.
- Experience with U.S. entities is considered an asset.
- Proficiency in ASPE and multi-currency reporting environments.
- Knowledge of Canadian corporate income tax and sales tax; U.S. tax experience is an added benefit.
- Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with QuickBooks Desktop required, along with a general proficiency and interest in additional software and cloud-based applications.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time-management abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- High attention to detail and a results-oriented approach with strong commitment to deadlines and quality standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
