Reporting to the Head Cook (or his / her delegate), the Assistant Cook assists the Head Cook with food preparation including chopping, cutting, marinating and peeling at the assigned store or Central Kitchen. The Assistant Cook checks the quality / quantities of incoming food products, carries and stores received items, and maintains cleanliness of kitchen utensils, tools, containers, clothes, towels, work and food storage areas.
T&T Supermarket Inc. was founded in 1993 with two stores in BC. Since then, it has expanded rapidly and is now Canada’s largest Asian supermarket chain with 31 stores across the country : 13 in BC, 7 in Alberta, 10 in Ontario, and 1 in Quebec. The Company continues to grow with plans for more stores in the coming years.
Responsibilities
- Storage of food, including incoming stock
- Preparing ingredients before cooking (e.g., chopping vegetables, butchering meat, cleaning seafood)
- Ensure proper receiving and storage conditions for food
- Maintain own station : cleanliness and readiness of items before and after each shift
- Follow recipes, ingredient specifications, quantities, quality, and cooking times as stated in SOPs
- Ensure the kitchen meets sanitation standards as set by the Head Chef and Food Safety requirements
- Maintain product quality, food safety, freshness, and FIFO practices within the department
- Ensure proper storage and handling of food with completed temperature records
- Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, equipment and tools; manage garbage and recycling appropriately
- Possess knowledge, skills, and prior experience in making Kitchen Deli products (BBQ, Hot Foods, Dim Sum, Sushi, and / or other semi-finished products)
- Possess 1 to 3 years of relevant experience
- Knowledge of workplace health & safety and food safety (Food Safe Certification preferred)
- Good communication skills
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekdays, weekends, holidays, mornings and evenings
