Your role
- Perform structural analysis, seismic qualification and assessment, structural design, and ageing management.
- Prepare engineering design calculations for structural systems involving steel, reinforced concrete and masonry and prepare design documents and compile engineering packages.
- Analyze structural systems and elements as required using analysis software programs such as ANSYS, SAP2000, ACS SASSI and other structural programs.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulations, and ensure the adequacy of design for permits and compliance with approved plans.
- Develop conceptual design, preliminary design and detailed design.
- Prepare technical specification documents.
- Accountable for delivering all engineering deliverables/tasks to achieve project objectives within specified timelines and budgets.
- Provide technical instructions to junior staff or designers to develop engineering documentation.
- Review and comment on the work performed by others to ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and design documentation.
- Check that the work performed meets the quality requirements in accordance with company QA programs and manuals.
- Participate in formal engineering design and other reviews as may be mandated for the design changes in question.
- Prepare engineering estimates and technical write‑ups for proposals.
- Perform plant walkdowns as and if required in support of design requirements definition and detailed engineering of design modifications.
- Hold a civil engineering degree from an accredited university. A master's degree and above is an asset.
- Must be licensed in a professional engineering organization recognized in Canada. Preferably registered as a Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario.
- Minimum 12 years of structural analysis and design experience in steel and concrete structures.
- Preferably 3 to 5 years of design experience in nuclear power plants.
- Deep and thorough understanding of structural engineering gained through a combination of design‑office and site experience.
- Thorough knowledge of Canadian and international codes and standards used in civil/structural engineering.
- Thorough knowledge of analysis software commonly used in civil/structural engineering such as ANSYS, SAP2000, ETABS, etc.
- Must have experience with static, dynamic and seismic analysis of structures and foundations.
- Adequate knowledge of established nuclear QA guidelines, procedures and practices is preferable.
- Adequate knowledge of applicable nuclear safety codes and regulations is an asset.
- Knowledge of the modification process of nuclear power plants; ECC process or similar is an asset.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Ability to manage and work effectively under tight schedules and budgets.
- Eligible for security clearance through Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC).
- Travel to client site may be required.
