Who can apply
Nunavut Inuit who are enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement. Persons residing within a 500 kilometre radius of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Persons residing within a 700 kilometre radius of Whitehorse, Yukon. For positions located in Yukon, candidates who meet the essential qualifications will be appointed in the following order:

  1. Candidates who self-identify as members of Yukon First Nations;
  2. Candidates who self-identify as Indigenous Peoples;
  3. Veterans;
  4. Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
For positions located in Nunavut, persons self-identifying as Nunavut Inuit enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement will be appointed first.

Duties

  • Assist victims and witnesses affected by crime by providing information and ongoing court support with an empathic and compassionate approach.
  • Develop strong rapport and create a safer space in everyday interactions.
  • Work closely with Crown prosecutors, victims, witnesses, and the community to provide a critical link between the criminal justice system and victims of crime.
  • Travel across the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, and Yukon to support circuit court needs.

Intent of the process
This process is anticipatory. A list of qualified and/or partially qualified candidates will be established from this process to staff positions in Yellowknife (Northwest Territories), Whitehorse (Yukon) and Iqaluit (Nunavut), with varying tenures.

Operational requirements

- Requirement to travel which may include assignments on short notice and for extended periods.

- Ability and willingness to work outside normal working hours which may include evenings, nights and weekends based on operational needs.

- Possession of a valid driver’s licence. Note: the licence class must, at a minimum, authorize the driver to drive a car, van or small truck, on all roads and highways without an accompanying driver (Yukon and Northwest Territories only).

Your application must clearly explain how you meet the following

Education
A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience.

Experience
Experience working with or supporting individuals through difficult situations, which may include youth, elderly, persons with disabilities, victims of crime, or vulnerable people.

Experience working in a Northern environment.

Experience working in a cross-cultural environment, particularly in Indigenous communities.

Applied / assessed at a later date
