About You
You are able to effectively interpret and communicate requirements. You have strong interpersonal and relationship building skills to interact with internal and external clients. You have the ability to understand complex customer problems and generate appropriate solutions. You have a natural desire and curiosity to develop an understanding of the business, our science, and commercial driver.
You have experience in integrating, testing, and releasing software systems in the context of mission critical deployments. You will be tasked with assisting in driving improvements for the deployment and operations of Nanometrics’ systems as well as implementing and supporting custom software development for customer specific needs. You will be expected to become an expert in the integration and use of our software systems in the creation of complete customer solutions.
The Team
The Nanometrics Seismic Instruments and Systems division is looking for a Software Solutions Specialist within our Solutions Engineering team. As a member of a multidisciplinary team, you will bring your expertise and experience to solving difficult problems with team members with other specializations. Supporting the Instruments and Systems Sales Team, this role will have direct interaction with customers in establishment of customer solutions. The working environment will be a mix between office work, lab work, and international working environments. This role will include travel as needed (approximately 15%).
The Role

• Integrate internally developed instruments and software into complete customer solutions
• Provide bespoke components and customizations to specific customer requirements
• Evaluation and integration of the third-party and open source data processing and automation modules
• Work with management to clarify requirements and prioritize development features
• Collaborate with the Sales team in driving continuous improvement to customer solutions and project design
• Support the development of Nanometrics on-premise data center infrastructure in support of external client projects and internal research projects
  

What You Bring

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
• 3+ years experience in a software integration, systems engineering, or product development position. Preference given to someone with software development experience
• Proficiency with scripting and programming languages for the purposes of automations and data analysis (eg. Python, Bash Shell Scripting, Lua, others)
• Understanding of the fundamentals of digital communications and networking protocols
  

Assets

• Knowledge of the Seismology, Geophysics or related field
• Knowledge of virtualization and container technologies
• Experience with Linux (installation and administration)
• Experience with the design and use of communication and telemetry systems
• Experience of network monitoring tools (Nagios, Prometheus, OpsGenie, etc)
• Knowledge of network security technologies and tools including IPSEC, OpenVPN, SSL, etc.
