Work environment

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is part of the core public service administration named in Schedule IV of the Financial Administration Act (FAA) and is also subject to the PSEA.

This being said the TSB is an independent arm's length agency that reports to Parliament through the President of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada.

The organization aspires to be a modern world-class organization that evolves and adapts as it strives to influence changes that advance transportation safety.

The TSB has a strong and credible reputation in Canada and around the world.

The TSB is a small organization with approximately 220 employees and 5 Board Members, including the Chair. The organization operates in a decentralized manner through 10 locations across Canada.

Intent of the process

The intent of this process is to establish a diversified pool of partially assessed candidates. Positions may be staffed through this process with various tenures, language profiles and / or requirements, location, and security requirements.

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)

Education - essential for the position

A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and / or experience.

Occupational Certification - essential for the position

A valid Canadian Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) Licence (Category M1 or Category M2).

Experience - essential for the position

1.Experience in the servicing and maintenance of aircrafts.

2.Experience in writing documents, manuals or reports.

Various language requirements

Depending on the need of the organization, profiles include : English essential, Bilingual imperative BBB / BBB and CBC / CBC.

Knowledge of the Canadian Transportation Accident Investigation and Safety Board Act and the Transportation Safety Board Regulations.

Knowledge of the Aeronautics Act and the Canadian Aviation Regulations.

Knowledge of the civil air transportation system and the industry.

Knowledge of fixed wing or rotary wing technical requirements such as : engines, airframe, systems, and maintenance practices.

Knowledge of fixed wing or rotary wing aerodynamics.

Knowledge of current trends in aviation safety, such as Safety Management System, Risk management and Human factors.

Ability to communicate orally.

Ability to communicate in writing.

Ability to prioritize work assignments to meet objectives.

Ability to manage a team.

Ability to analyze facts and write an analysis.

Effective interpersonal relationships.

Asset - education

Graduation with a degree from a recognized university or a post-secondary school diploma in the field of aviation.

Asset Qualifications Occupational Certification

Possession of an AME license with an E or S rating.

Possession of other aviation licenses (e.g. air traffic comtroller or pilot’s licence).

Asset Qualifications Experience

Experience in the servicing and maintenance of multi-engine aircraft.

Experience in aviation accident investigations or aviation safety programs.

Experience (1 year minimum) in supervising the wok of employees in the field of aviation.

Possess a valid driver’s license in Canada.

Agree to deploy to accident sites where there may be exposure to disagreeable and difficult working conditions and to extreme climatic conditions.

Agree to respond and travel on short notice during and after normal working hours and on statutory holidays.

Agree to travel within Canada and abroad, including travel by car, rail, ship and air.

Willingness to be available on standby, on a rotational basis.

Willingness to undergo TSB required training.
