Bird is a place where you will unlock your potential and achieve your goals.The Quality Control Inspector – Civil is responsible for performing in-process and final inspections to ensure that civil construction activities meet technical specifications, industry standards, and quality requirements. This role supports the effective implementation and continual improvement of the Quality Control program and plays a critical role in achieving consistent, high-quality project outcomes. This position is based in Pickering, ON.#
• What you will be doing :
• Execute QA / QC inspections on-site, ensuring compliance with design specifications, construction drawings, applicable codes, and contract documents.
• Perform and document inspections of concrete placement, rebar installation, formwork system, earthworks, and other civil works per approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
• Inspect rebar placement for size, spacing, cover, cleanliness, and proper support in accordance with drawings and specifications.
• Verify formwork construction for alignment, dimensions, material suitability, and cleanliness before concrete placement.
• Verify testing activities are performed in accordance with the Inspection and Test Plan.
• Conduct surveillance of construction activities performed by subcontractors to ensure compliance with project requirements and quality standards.
• Develop and manage Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), quality checklists, and control procedures.
• Complete all associated records to document the status and results of performed inspections.
• Understand and interpret technical drawings for civil works.
• Ensure proper use of calibrated equipment during inspections and testing activities.
• Perform material inspections to confirm compliance with Purchase Order, Code, and Standard requirements.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date inspection records, non-conformance reports (NCRs), and corrective action plans.
• Support with the preparation and turnover of records.
• Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to address quality concerns and resolve deficiencies in a timely and professional manner.
• Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to quality requirements.
• Provide technical mentorship to junior QA / QC personnel and field staff.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the QA / QC program.#
• What we are looking for :
• Post-secondary education in Civil Engineering, Construction Technology, or a related discipline.
• Minimum 3–5 years of experience in QA / QC inspection roles within civil construction
• Thorough understanding of construction drawings, specifications, standards, and materials testing procedures.
• Proven experience with inspection and testing of concrete, rebar, and formwork.
• Working knowledge of CSA A23.1 and CSA A23.2 standards and other applicable building regulations.
• Previous experience with inspection and testing of concrete.
• Proficiency in digital tools such as MS Office, MS Project, SharePoint, and quality management software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear reports and interface with stakeholders at all levels.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive in identifying potential issues.
• ACI / CCIL certification is considered an asset.
• Physical Demands : Extended periods of standing, walking, and working in active construction zones.#
