Purpose
The Senior Finance & Accounting Analyst will support the Controller by leading operational finance activities. This role is responsible for maintaining general ledger integrity, performing P&L analysis, conducting balance sheet reviews, and completing account reconciliations. The position also supports budgeting and forecasting activities, ensures compliance with accounting standards and internal controls, and provides occasional support for other accounting functions, including Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes. The role partners closely with the Controller to explain financial results, analyze variances, and support statutory reporting and other finance initiatives.
Main Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Analysis :
- Support with month-end close activities, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
- Maintain close checklists, review controls, and supporting documentation to support an efficient close.
- Prepare and review journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, and adjustments.
- Ensure the general ledger is complete, accurate, and properly classified prior to month-end close.
- Perform and review balance sheet, income statement and account reconciliations.
- Analyze variances to forecast, budget, and prior-year expenses and explain key drivers.
- Conduct deep-dive financial analysis to identify profit leakage, operational inefficiencies, and cost reduction opportunities.
- Monitor cash outflows and inflows, identifying trends and recommending immediate corrective actions.
Budgeting & Forecasting :
Assist in budgeting, forecasting projects, and the preparation of Month-end dashboards and management presentations.Track performance against budget and forecast, highlighting risks and opportunities.Assist with modeling and scenario analysis as needed.Compliance & Tax :
File monthly sales tax returns and analyze related accounts.Assist in the preparation of corporate tax returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations.Support with audits, reviews and quarterly or yearly financial filings.Prepare and submit required filings to TICO and other Government bodies (Stats Canada) in accordance with reporting requirements and deadlines.Support internal and external audit processes by preparing documentation and coordinating responses.Internal Controls & Governance :
Ensure effective internal controls over financial reporting in accordance with ASPE.Ensure all financial transactions are accurately recorded, properly classified, and supported in the general ledger in accordance with ASPE and company accounting policies.Support external audits by preparing schedules, responding to inquiries, and ensuring audit readiness.Process Improvement & Controls :
Partner with Controller to continuously identify and eliminate waste in day-to-day activities.Support identification of internal control gaps or process weaknesses and assist in implementation of practical remediation solutions.Support initiatives to improve reporting and other accounting processes.Support system implementations or enhancements related to finance, accounting and reporting.Other Duties :
The candidate may be required to assist in other areas of the Accounting and Finance department and other business units as needs arise.Ad-hoc projects as assigned.Required :
5-7 years of experience in full-cycle accounting, preferably in a senior or supervisory role.Experience with financial systems and ERP platforms (e.g., QBO and NetSuite).Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma required in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration.Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or Business Administration considered an asset.Advanced Excel proficiency required, including complex formulas, dynamic arrays, Pivot Tables, and Power Query (Get & Transform Data) to build scalable, repeatable financial reporting and analysis.Strong understanding of accrual accounting and financial statement preparation.Experience managing month-end close, reconciliations, and variance analysis.Experience with GL Accounting, Accounts Payable and Receivables.Able to attend weekly meeting on site.Preferred :
Travel industry experience preferred.Experience with TRAMS and QBP. (nice to have)Experience writing / modifying SQL queries such as MS Access, Crystal Reporting, Power BI.Experience with Reporting Dashboard, PowerPoint presentations.Prior people-management experience. (nice to have)Public accounting and / or industry experience a plus.Required Skills
