Performs basic design work and calculations. Performs field work; uses automated systems. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties
Transportation Engineer Tech I
- Performs basic design work.
- Performs intermediate drafting and calculations in support of design activities; accomplishes non-routine and complex assignments.
- Prepares field notes.
- Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.
- Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.
- Uses automated programs, interactive graphics and the Design and Construction Information System.
- Works on reproduction of plans.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Transportation Engineer Tech II
The above and :
Assists in on-the-job training of the less experienced technicians.Performs advanced drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.Reviews entire set of plans for format, drafting, and calclation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.Writes general notes, specifications and provisions.Minimum Qualifications
Education
High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies.
Experience
Transportation Engineer Tech I : No experience required. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications.
Transportation Engineer Tech II : 2 years drafting, design, plan preparation (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related College education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
